Paul’s defence of his authority

This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.

Literal Version

10:1 Paul’s defence of his authority

10Now I myself, Paul, am indeed humble when I’m with you all, but when I’m absent I’m bolder. I implore you all by the humility and gentleness of the messiah 2and I beg you so that when I come I won’t have to be as bold as I’m expecting to counter those who consider us to be motivated by worldly desires. 3We might be living in this world, but it’s not people that we’re at war with, 4because the weapons that we use in war are not physical but come with God’s power for tearing down anti-God institutions and nullifying their arguments. 5We attack every theory that’s used to argue against the possibility of knowing God, and capturing all thinking so it becomes obedient to the messiah, 6and being ready to stand against all disobedience for whenever your obedience might be complete.

7You all are looking at the outside appearance of things. Anyone who has personally decided to follow Messiah needs to take this into account: just as they belong to Messiah, so also do we. 8So if I boast too often about our authority (which the master gave us for building you up rather than for tearing you down), I won’t be ashamed of it 9so that hopefully I won’t be terrifying you all with my letters. 10Some are saying, “His letters are heavy and strongly-worded, but when he’s actually here, he’s weak and his words get mocked.” 11Those people should reconsider and realise that as we are in our letters when we’re absent, that’s also how we’ll work when we’re present.

12We don’t dare to classify ourselves or compare with some of those who commend themselves, but they measure and compare themselves with each other—not understanding what they’re doing. 13But we won’t boast about immeasurable things—only those domains where God allotted a measure to us which was to reach all of you. 14In not reaching you we don’t overextend ourselves, because we came your way with the good message about the messiah. 15We don’t boast of things we can’t measure like other peoples’ work, but we have hope that as your faith grows, you’ll see us as more important in more areas 16so we can preach the good message to the areas beyond you—not boasting about things already done in others’ areas.

17But [ref]‘if anyone does boast, they should boast in the master’, 18because it’s not the people who commend themselves that are approved, but those who the master commends.

10And myself I, Paulos, am_exhorting you_all by the gentleness and gentleness of_the chosen_one/messiah, who concerning appearance indeed am_humble among you_all, but being_absent I_am_having_confidence toward you_all.
2And I_am_beseeching you that not, being_present to_have_confidence with_the confidence with_which I_am_counting, to_dare to some which counting us, as according_to the_flesh walking.
3In for the_flesh walking, not according_to flesh we_are_warring.
4For/Because the weapons of_the warfare of_us are not fleshly, but powerful to_ the _god to the_tearing_down of_strongholds, arguments taking_down, 5and every height lifted_up against the knowledge of_ the _god, and making_captive every thinking into the obedience of_the chosen_one/messiah, 6and in ready having to_avenge all disobedience, whenever may_be_fulfilled of_you_all the obedience.
7At_the things according_to appearance you_all_are_looking.
If anyone has_persuaded by_himself of_chosen_one/messiah to_be, this him _let_be_counting again by himself, that as he is of_chosen_one/messiah, thus also we are.
8And For/Because if more_abundantly something I_may_boast concerning the authority of_us, which gave the master for building you and not for tearing_down of_you_all, not I_will_be_being_ashamed, 9in_order_that not I_may_suppose as_though wishfully to_be_terrifying you_all by my letters.
10Because:
His letters indeed, he_is_saying:
heavy and strong are, but the presence of_his body is weak, and his speech having_been_scorned.
11This let_be_counting the such one, that such_as we_are the in_message by letters being_absent, such also being_present the in_work.
12For/Because not we_are_daring to_classify or to_compare ourselves, with_some of_the ones themselves commending, but they among themselves, themselves measuring and comparing themselves with_themselves, not are_understanding.
13But we not into the immeasurable will_be_boasting, but according_to the measure of_the domain, of_which allotted to_us the god of_a_measure, to_reach until also of_you_all.
14not not For/Because as reaching to you_all, we_are_overextending ourselves, because/for until also of_you_all we_came in the good_message of_the chosen_one/messiah, 15not to the immeasurable boasting in anothers labours, but hope having, being_grown of_the faith of_you_all, among you_all to_be_magnified according_to the domain of_us to abundance, 16to the parts beyond you_all to_good_message_preach, not in anothers domain for the ready things to_boast.
17But the one boasting, in the_master him _let_be_boasting.
18For/Because not the one himself commending, that one approved, is but whom the master is_commending.
