3:7 Literally, “bed” or “couch.” A sedan chair was a portable chair used by royalty, carried on poles. It certainly was not a wheeled carriage, as some translations suggest.

3.7 En lectulum. Priori amice miranti respondet gentilitas determinans, quo ascendat, quia scilicet ad lectulum, et per quid ascendat, quia scilicet media fercula sunt charitate constrata, et probat se in eamdem sponsi dilectionem accessisse, in qua prior est: quia similiter habet nuptialem apparatum, et prædicatores habet, quos Deus ad nos non misisset, nisi eos præelegisset. En lectulum. Lectulus veri pacifici, æterna beatitudo, in qua rex cum sanctis quiescit, ad quem Ecclesia per desertum partim quotidie pervenit, tandem perfecte perveniet. Vel etiam lectulus Dei est in præsenti quieta conversatio sanctorum. A litter was a portable bed or couch that important people were carried on from place to place. It was carried by wooden poles that were attached to it. This litter probably had a canopy on top of it that functioned as a roof and curtains around it that could be opened and closed. If your readers would be unfamiliar with this term you could use the name of something similar in your area or you could use a descriptive phrase as modeled by the UST. Alternate translation: “portable couch”
