1Ch 12

12Now these are they who came to David at Ziklag, while he still kept at a distance from Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty heroes, his helpers in war. 2They were armed with bows and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow; they were of Saul’s tribesmen of Benjamin. 3The chief was Ahiezer; then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite, Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth, Beracah, Jehu the Anathothite, 4Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mightly warrior among the Thirty and at the head of the Thirty, Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, Jozabad the Gederathite, 5Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah, shephatiah the Haruphite, 6Elkanah, Isshiah, Azarel, Joezer, Jashobeam, the Korahites, 7Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor. 8And of the Gadites there went over to David to the stronghold in the wilderness, Brave warriors, Men trained for war, Who could handle shield and spear, Whose faces were like the faces of lions, And they were as swift as the gazelles upon the mountains. 9Ezer the first, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third, 10Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth, 11Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh, 12Jonahan the eight, Elzabad the ninth, 13Jeremiah the tenth, Machbanni the eleventh. 14These of the sons of Gad were commanders of the army. The least was equal to a hundred, And the greatest to a thousand. 15These are they who went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks, and they put to flight all those who dwelt in the valleys, both toward the east and toward the west. 16And once there came some of the Benjamites and Judahites to the stronghold to David. 17And David went out to meet them and spoke and said to them, If you come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you; but if to betray me to my adversaries, since there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look down and rebuke it. 18Then the spirit came upon Abishai, the chief of the Thirty: Thine we are, O David, And on thy side, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to thee, And peace to thy helpers! For thy God helpeth thee! Then David received them and made them commanders of the guerilla band.

19Of Manasseh also some went over to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle; but they helped them not, for the tyrants of the Philistines after consultation sent him away, saying, he will fall away to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads. 20As he went to Ziklag, there came over to him of Manasseh, Adnah, Jozabad, Jedialel, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, commanders of thousands, who were of Manasseh. 21And they helped David against the guerilla bands, for they were all brave, valiant warriors and were commanders in the army. 22Thus from day to day men came to David help him, until there was a great army, like the army of God. 23And these are the numbers of the leaders of the warriors who came to David to Hebron, to turn over to him the kingdom of Saul, in accordance witht the word of Jehovah. 24The Judahites who bore shield and spear were six thousand, eight hundred armed warriors. 25Of the Simeonites seven thousand, one hundred brave, able warriors. 26Of the Levites four thousand, six hundred. 27And Jehoida was the prince of the house of Aaron, and with him were three thousand, seven hundred, 28and Zadok a brave, able young man, together with his father’s house: twenty two commanders. 29And of the Benjamites, the kinsmen of Saul, three thousand; for hitherto the majority of them had maintained their allegiance to the house of Saul. 30And of the Ephraimites twenty thousand, eight hundred brave, able warriors, famous men in their families. 31And of the half tribe of Manaseh eighteen thousand who were mentioned by name to come and make David king. 32And of the Issacharites, men who thoroughly understood the times, so that they knew what Israel outght to do--their two hundred leaders and all their clansmen were under their command. 33Of Zebulun, there took the field, ready for battle and fully armed with all the weapons of war, fifty thousand--a band united by a coomon purpose. 34And of Naphtali a thousand commanders, and with them thirty-seven thousand with shield and spear. 35And of the Danites twenty-eight thousand, six hundred ready for battle. 36And of Ashner, there took the field, forty thousand ready for battle. 37And from the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites and the Gadites and of the half tribe of Manasseh, a hundred and twenty thousand fully equipped with all the weapons of war. 38All these warriors, united by a single purpose, came to Hebron to make David king over all Israel. And all the rest of Israel also had the one purpose of making David king.

39And they were with David three days, eating and drinking, for their kinsmen had made preparation for them. 40Moreover those who were near them, as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought food on asses, camels, mules, and oxen--provisions consisting of meal, cakes of figs, bunches of raisins, wine, oil, oxen, and sheep in abundance; for joy reigned in Israel.
