21 For the musical director: a song by David.

21 The king’s glad about your strength, Yahweh.

≈He’s very happy about the salvation you provide.

2 You’ve given him what he really wanted,

≈and haven’t held back from answering his requests. (Instrumental break.)

3 You went to meet him with blessings of good things.

≈You placed a crown of purest gold on his head.

4 He asked you for life and you gave it to him.

You extended his life and gave him an eternal dynasty.

5 He receives great respect because of your victory.

≈You’ve given him splendour and majesty.

6 When you grant him lasting blessings,

you make him glad with the excitement of your presence.

7 The king trusts in Yahweh.

He won’t waver as he experiences the loyal commitment of the highest one.

8 Your energy will find all your enemies.

Your strength will reach as far as those who hate you.

9 When you get angry, you’ll burn them up like in a flaming furnace.

≈Yahweh will consume them in his fury, and the fire will devour them.

10 You’ll destroy their offspring from the earth

and their descendants from among humankind

11 because they intended to do evil against you.

They conceived a plot, but they won’t succeed

12 because you will turn them back.

≈You’ll draw your bow in front of them.

13 Yahweh, show us your strength and we’ll praise you.

We’ll sing, and praise your power.
