116 I love Yahweh because he hears my voice

and my requests for mercy.

2 Because he listened to me,

as long as I live, I’ll call him for help.

3 The ropes of death surrounded me,

≈ and the snares of the grave confronted me.

I was confronted by anguish and sorrow.

4 Then I cried out to Yahweh:

“Please Yahweh, rescue my life.”

5 Yahweh is merciful and fair—

our god is compassionate.

6 Yahweh protects those who are helpless.

I was in a desperate situation, and he saved me.

7 My mind can relax again

because Yahweh has been generous to me,

8 because you rescued my life from death,

my eyes from tears,

and my feet from stumbling.

9 I will walk in front of Yahweh

in the lands of the living.

10 I believed in him,

even when I said, “I’m suffering badly.”

11 In my distress I said, “All people are liars.”

12 How can I repay Yahweh for all his kindnesses to me?

13 I will raise the cup of salvation,

and call on Yahweh’s name.

14 I will fulfill my vows to Yahweh

now in the presence of all his people.

15 The death of his faithful ones

is costly in Yahweh’s view.

16 Yahweh, I’m definitely your servant.

I’m your servant—the son of your servant woman.

You’ve released me from my chains.

17 I will offer thanksgiving to you as a sacrifice,

and I’ll call out to Yahweh whenever I need help.

18 I will fulfill my vows to Yahweh

now in the presence of all his people,

19 in the courtyards around Yahweh’s residence—

there in the middle of Yerushalem (Jerusalem).
