Readers’ Version

Literal Version

A song by David.

108I’ve made my decision, God.

I will sing, yes, I will sing praises with sincerity.

2Wake up, lute and harp—

I’ll wake up the dawn.

3I will give thanks to you, Yahweh, among the people groups.

≈ I will sing praises to you among the nations

4because your loyal commitment extends to the heavens

and your trustworthiness reaches to the skies.

5Be honoured, God, above the heavens,

and may your splendour be displayed across all the world.

6Use your power to answer me

so that those you love will be rescued.

7God has spoken from his sanctuary, “I will celebrate.

I will divide up Shekem and apportion out the Sukkot Valley.

8Gilead is mine, and Menashsheh is mine.

Efrayim is my helmet and Yehudah is my scepter.

9Moab is my washbasin.

I’ll throw my sandal over Edom.

I’ll shout in triumph over Philistia.

10Who will bring me into the fortified city?

Who will lead me to Edom?”

11It seems that you’ve rejected us, God?

You don’t go into battle with our armies.

12Give us help against our enemy,

because human help is worthless.

13We’ll win with God’s help.

He will trample down our enemies.
