107:1 Thanking for God’s goodness

107 Give thanks to Yahweh, because he’s good,

and his loyal commitment endures forever.

2 Let the people who’ve been redeemed by Yahweh speak out—

those he’s rescued from the enemy’s control.

3 He has gathered them back from foreign lands,

from the east and from the west,

≈ from the north and from the south.

4 They wandered through the wilderness on a desert road

and found no city that they could settle in.

5 They were hungry and thirsty—

≈ fading away from exhaustion.

6 Then they called out to Yahweh in their time of trouble,

→ and he rescued them out of their distress.

7 He led them by a direct path

so that they could go to a city to live in.

8 Oh that people would praise Yahweh for his loyal commitment

and for the amazing things he’s done for humanity,

9 because he satisfies the longings of those who thirst,

and the desires of those who hunger, he fills up with good things.

10 Some sat in darkness and in gloom—

prisoners chained up and experiencing suffering.

11 This was because they had rebelled against God’s messages

and rejected the highest one’s instructions.

12 He used hardships to humble them.

They stumbled and there wasn’t anyone to help them up.

13 Then they called out to Yahweh in their time of trouble,

and he rescued them out of their distress.

14 He broke off their chains

≈ and brought them out of darkness and gloom.

15 Oh that people would praise Yahweh for his loyal commitment

≈ and for the amazing things he’s done for humanity,

16 because he’s broken the bronze gates

≈ and cut through the iron bars.

17 They were foolish in their rebellious ways

and made to suffer because of their sins.

18 They lost their desire to eat any food,

and they came close to death’s gates.

19 Then they called out to Yahweh in their time of trouble,

and he rescued them out of their distress.

20 He sent his message and healed them,

and he rescued them from their destruction.

21 Oh that people would praise Yahweh for his loyal commitment

and for the amazing things he’s done for humanity.

22 Let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices

and write songs about what he’s done.

23 Some travel across the ocean in ships

and do business overseas.

24 Those people saw Yahweh’s activities

and his miracles on the oceans,

25 because he spoke out his command

and aroused the windstorm that stirred up the waves.

26 Their ships reached up to the sky,

then they sank down into the troughs.

Their courage melted away in anguish.

27 They swayed and staggered like drunkards

and had run out of sensible ideas.

28 Then they called out to Yahweh in their time of trouble,

and he rescued them out of their distress.

29 He calmed the storm,

≈ and the waves were stilled.

30 Then they celebrated because it had quietened down,

so he brought them to their desired harbour.

31 Oh that people would praise Yahweh for his loyal commitment

and for the amazing things that he’s done for humanity.

32 Let them speak about his goodness to the people’s assembly

and praise him at the council of the elders.

33 He turns rivers into wilderness,

≈ and springs of water into dry land,

34 and a prosperous land into a barren place

because of the wickedness of those who live there.

35 He turns the wilderness into a pool

and dry land into springs of water.

36 He settles the hungry there,

and they build a city to live in.

37 They sow fields and plant vineyards,

so that they can bring in a profitable harvest.

38 He blesses them so they are very numerous.

He doesn’t let their cattle decrease in number.

39 They became less in number and status

through painful distress and suffering.

40 He pours contempt on the leaders

and makes them wander in the wilderness where there’s no roads,

41 but he protects the needy from affliction

and cares for his families like a shepherd with his flock.

42 The godly people will see that and celebrate,

and all wicked people will be shamed into silence.

43 Whoever is wise should take note of those things

and meditate about Yahweh’s acts of loyal commitment.

107 Give _thanks to/for_YHWH if/because he_is_good if/because is_forever loyalty _of_his _covenant.
2 Let _them _say of_YHWH those_redeemed _of whom he_has _redeemed _them from_the_hand _of the_foe.
3 And_from_the_lands he_has _gathered _them from_east and_from_west from_north and_from_the_sea.
4 They _wandered _about in_wilderness in_a _desolate _place _of a _way a _city _of dwelling not they _found.
5 Hungry also thirsty life _of_their (is)_in_them it _was _fainting _away.
6 And_they _cried _out to YHWH in_distress to/for_them from_their _of_troubles he_delivered _them.
7 And_he_led _them by_a _way straight to_go to a _city _of dwelling.
8 Let _them _give _thanks to/for_YHWH loyalty _of_his _covenant and_his _of_wonders to_the_children _of humankind.
9 If/because he _satisfies a _throat longing and_a _throat hungry he _fills good _thing[s].
10 those _who_sat _of darkness and_deep _darkness prisoners _of affliction and_iron.
11 If/because they _had _rebelled _against the _words/messages _of god and_the _counsel _of the _Most _High they _had _spurned.
12 And_he _humbled with_trouble heart _of_their they _stumbled and_there_was_not a _helper.
13 And_they _cried _out to YHWH in_distress to/for_them from_their _of_troubles he_saved _them.
14 He_brought _them _out from_darkness and_deep _darkness and_their _of_fetters he _tore _apart.
15 Let _them _give _thanks to/for_YHWH loyalty _of_his _covenant and_his _of_wonders to_the_children _of humankind.
16 If/because he _breaks _down gates _of bronze and_bars _of iron he _cuts _down.
17 Fools from_the _way _of their _transgression _of_of and_from_their _of_iniquities they _were _afflicted.
18 All _of food throat _of_their it _loathed and_they _reached to the_gates _of death.
19 And_they _cried _out to YHWH in_distress to/for_them from_their _of_troubles he_saved _them.
20 He _sent message _of_his and_he_healed _them and_he _delivered_them from_their _of_pits.

[fn] 22 and_let _them _sacrifice sacrifices _of thanksgiving and_let _them _recount works _of_his with_a _shout _of _joy.
[fn] 23 those _who_went _down _of the_sea in_ships who_did _of (of)_business on_the_waters many.
[fn] 24 they they _saw the _works _of YHWH and_his _of_wonders in_the_deep.
[fn] 25 and_he/it _said and_he _appointed a _wind _of a _storm and_it _lifted _up waves _of_its.
[fn] 26 they _went _up the_heavens they _went _down the _deeps soul _of_their in_distress it _melted.
27 They _staggered and_they _trembled like_drunkard and_all skill _of_their it _was _confused.
28 And_they _cried _out to YHWH in_distress to/for_them and_from_their _of_troubles he_brought _them _out.
29 He _raised the_storm into_a _whisper waves _of_their and_they _were _still.
30 And_they _rejoiced if/because they _were _quiet and_he_guided _them to the _harbor _of their _desire _of_of.
31 Let _them _give _thanks to/for_YHWH loyalty _of_his _covenant and_his _of_wonders to_the_children _of humankind.
32 And_let_them _exalt _him in_the_assembly _of the_people and_in_the_seat _of the_elders let_them _praise _him.
33 He _made rivers into_a _wilderness and_springs _of water into_thirsty _ground.
34 A _land _of fruit into_saltiness from_the _evil _of those _who_dwell _of in_it.
35 He _made a _wilderness into_a _pool _of water and_a _land _of dryness into_springs _of water.
36 And_he _caused _to _dwell there hungry_people and_they _established a _city _of dwelling.
37 And_they _sowed fields and_they _planted vineyards and_they _made fruit _of produce.
38 And_he_blessed _them and_they _multiplied exceedingly and_their _of_cattle not he _made _few.
39 And_they _became _few and_they _were _bowed _down from_the_oppression _of calamity and_sorrow.
[fn] 40 he_was_pouring _out contempt on noble_people and_he_made _them _wander in_a _wasteland _of not a _way.
41 And_he _set _on _high the_needy from_affliction and_he/it _assigned like_flock families.
42 They _see upright_people and_they _rejoice and_all unrighteousness it _shuts her/its_mouth.
43 Who is_wise and_let _him _observe these_things and_let _them _consider _carefully the _covenant _loyalti(es)_of YHWH.
