Literal Version

105Give thanks to Yahweh. Ask him when you need help.

Tell every people group about what he’s done.

2Sing to him. Sing praises to him.

Tell about his wonderful miracles.

3Boast about his sinless reputation.

Let the hearts of those who follow Yahweh be glad.

4Get your help from Yahweh and his strength.

≈ Always be requesting his attention.

5Remember the incredible things that he’s done—

≈ his miracles and the judgements that he’s made

6you offspring of his servant Abraham,

≈ you descendants of Yaakov (Jacob), his chosen one.

7He is Yahweh, our god.

His judgements are felt throughout the entire world.

8He never forgets his agreement with us

Any promise he made will endure for a thousand generations.

9like the one he made with Abraham,[ref]

and his oath to Yitsak (Isaac).[ref]

10Later, he confirmed it again to Yaakov (Jacob),[ref]

and to Yisrael as an agreement with no expiry date,

11saying, “I’ll give you all the Canaan region,

as your share of your inheritance.”

12That was when they were few in number

so few, and were strangers to the area.

13They wandered from country to country

≈ and from one kingdom to another.

14He didn’t allow others to oppress them.

He even scolded kings on their account.[ref]

15He told them not to touch his chosen leaders,

≈ and not to harm his prophets.

16He called for a famine in that land[ref]

≈ all food supply chains were broken.

17He sent a man on ahead of them,[ref]

when Yosef (Joseph) was sold as a slave.

18His feet were shackled together.[ref]

≈ His neck was placed in an iron collar

19until Yahweh’s[fn] order came.

Yahweh’s promise[fn] tested Yosef.

20Then the king sent servants to release him.[ref]

≈ The people’s ruler set him free.

21He made him the master of his household,[ref]

and the ruler over all his possessions

22to instruct his officials at his pleasure,

≈ and to teach wisdom to his elders.

23Then Yisrael went to Egypt (Heb. Mitsrayim),[ref]

yes, Yaakov (Jacob) lived for a time in the land of Ham.

24Then Yahweh made his people have large families,

and made them much more powerful than their enemies.

25He caused them to hate his people

≈ to deal craftily with his servants.

26He sent his servant Mosheh (Moses),[ref]

≈ and Aharon (Aaron) who he’d chosen

so they would deal with it.

27They demonstrated signs from Yahweh while with the Egyptians,

≈ and miracles in the land of Ham.

28He sent darkness and the place went dark.[ref]

They couldn’t argue against his commands.[fn]

29He turned their water into blood,[ref]

and their fish died.

30Their land swarmed with frogs,[ref]

even in the palace bedrooms.

31He spoke and a swarm of flies came.[ref]

Gnats spread throughout the entire country.

32He replaced the rain with hail,[ref]

with fire flaming on their land.[fn]

33He destroyed their grapevines and fig trees—

shattering all the other trees.

34He spoke out and the locusts came[ref]

and grasshoppers that simply couldn’t be counted,

35and devoured all of the vegetation in their region

they ate up all the produce from the soil.

36He killed every eldest male in their land[ref]

the star products of their strength. STUD PRODUCTS???

37He brought his people out carrying gold and silver,[ref]

No one among the tribes stumbled as they left.

38Egypt (Heb. Mitsrayim) was glad when they departed,

because they’d come to very much dread them.

39He spread out a cloud for a covering[ref]

and a fire to give light at night.

40They asked, and he sent quail,[ref]

≈ and they filled up on bread from the heavens.

41He split a rock and water gushed out[ref]

it flowed in the wilderness like a river,

42because he remembered his holy promise to his servant Abraham.

43His people were happy as he brought them out of Egypt.

His chosen ones were shouting with joy.

44He gave them the foreigners’ lands,[ref]

and they took possession of the peoples’ goods,

45so that they might follow his instructions

and obey his rules.

Praise Yah.

105:19a It’s also possible to interpret the pronoun here as referring to Yosef, as in some other translations.

105:19b It’s not clear what saying of Yahweh is being referred to here, so other translations will likely differ.

105:28 It’s not clear who is being talked about here, so other translations will likely differ.

105:32 There was no fire mentioned in the Exodus plagues, hence some translations interpret this as lightning.
