ULT NUM Chapter 14

14And all the congregation lifted up, and they gave their voice, and the people wept in that night. 2And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron. And all the congregation said to them, “If only we died in the land of Egypt, or if only we died in this wilderness! 3And why is Yahweh bringing us to this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our children will be for plunder. Is it not good for us to return to Egypt?” 4And they said, a man to his brother, “We shall give a head, and we shall return to Egypt.” 5And Moses fell and Aaron on their faces to the face of all the assembly of the congregation of the sons of Israel, 6and Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, from the ones exploring the land, tore their clothes, 7and they said to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, “The land through which we passed to explore it is a very, very good land. 8If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us to this land, and he will give it to us, a land that is flowing with milk and honey. 9Only you shall not rebel against Yahweh, and you, you shall not fear the people of the land, for they are our bread. Their shadow turned aside from upon them, and Yahweh is with us. You shall not fear them!” 10And all the congregation said to stone them with stones. But the glory of Yahweh appeared in the tent of meeting to all the sons of Israel. 11And Yahweh said to Moses, “Until when will this people spurn me? And until when will it not believe in me, in all the signs that I have done in its midst? 12I will strike it with the plague, and I will dispossess it, and I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than it.” 13And Moses said to Yahweh, “And Egypt shall hear, for you brought this people up with your power from its midst, 14and they shall say to the one dwelling in this land. They have heard that you, Yahweh, are in the midst of this people, who appears eye in eye, you, Yahweh, and your cloud is standing over them, and in a pillar of cloud you are going before to their face by day and in a pillar of fire at night. 15And you kill this people as one man, then the nations who heard your hearing will say, saying, 16‘From Yahweh not being able to bring this people to the land that he swore to them, so he slaughtered them in the wilderness.’ 17And now, please may the power of my Lord be great, just as you spoke, saying, 18‘Yahweh is long of nostrils and great of covenant faithfulness, lifting up iniquity and transgression. But leaving unpunished, he will not leave unpunished, visiting iniquity of fathers upon sons, upon thirds, and upon fourths.’ 19Please forgive this people for the iniquity according to the greatness of your covenant faithfulness and just as you lifted up for this people from Egypt and as far as here.” 20And Yahweh said, “I have forgiven according to your word. 21However, as I live and as all the land is filled with the glory of Yahweh, 22that all the men seeing my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and they tested me this ten times, and they did not hear my voice, 23if they see the land that I swore to their fathers. And all the ones spurning me will not see it. 24But my servant Caleb, because another spirit was with him, and he filled after me, so I will bring him to the land where he went, and his seed will possess it. 25And the Amalekite and the Canaanite are dwelling in the valley. Tomorrow turn and set out for you to the wilderness, the way of the Sea of Reeds.” 26And Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 27“Until when to this evil congregation, that they are murmuring against me? I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel, which they are murmuring against me. 28Say to them, ‘As I live—the declaration of Yahweh—if not just as you spoke in my ears, thus I will do to you: 29In this wilderness your corpses will fall and all your counted ones according to all your number, from a son of 20 years and upward, who murmured against me; 30if you go to the land that I have lifted up my hand to make you dwell in it, except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, the son of Nun, 31and your children whom you said will be for plunder. And I will bring them, and they will know the land that you rejected. 32And you, your corpses will fall in this wilderness, 33and your sons will be shepherds in the wilderness 40 years, and they will lift up your fornications until the finishing of your corpses in the wilderness. 34By the number of the days that you explored the land, 40 days, a day for the year, a day for the year, you will lift up your iniquities 40 years. And you will know my opposition.’ 35I, Yahweh, have spoken. If I do not do this to all this evil congregation, the ones congregating against me. In this wilderness they will finish, and there they will die.” 36And the men whom Moses sent to explore the land and returned and made all the congregation murmur against him by bringing out a bad report against the land, 37and they died, the men bringing out an evil bad report of the land, in the plague to the face of Yahweh. 38But Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, lived from those men, the ones having gone to explore the land. 39And Moses spoke these words to all the sons of Israel, and the people mourned exceedingly, 40and they rose early in the morning and went up to the head of the hill country, saying, “Behold us! And we will go up to the place that Yahweh said, for we sinned.” 41And Moses said, “Why is this—are you passing over the mouth of Yahweh? And it will not succeed. 42You shall not go up, for Yahweh is not in your midst, and you shall not be struck to the face of your enemies. 43For the Amalekite and the Canaanite are there to your face, and you will fall by the sword, for upon this, you returned from after Yahweh, and Yahweh will not be with you.” 44And they presumed to go up to the head of the hill country, but the box of the covenant of Yahweh and Moses did not depart from the midst of the camp. 45And the Amalekite and the Canaanite, the one dwelling in that hill country, came down. And they struck them and beat them to pieces as far as the Hormah.
