The List of Returned Exiles

2Now these were the people[fn] of the province who came up from the captivity of the exile whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon carried captive to Babylonia. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to hisown city.

2They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah.The number of the men of the people of Israel: 3the descendants[fn] of Parosh, two thousand one hundred and seventy-two; 4the descendants[fn] of Shephatiah, three hundred and seventy-two; 5the descendants[fn] of Arah, seven hundred and seventy-five; 6the descendants[fn] of Pahath-moab,particularly the descendants[fn] of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand eight hundred and twelve; 7the descendants[fn] of Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four; 8the descendants[fn] of Zattu, nine hundred and forty-five; 9the descendants[fn] of Zaccai, seven hundred and sixty; 10the descendants[fn] of Bani, six hundred and forty-two; 11the descendants[fn] of Bebai, six hundred and twenty-three; 12the descendants[fn] of Azgad, one thousand two hundred and twenty-two; 13the descendants[fn] of Adonikam, six hundred and sixty-six; 14the descendants[fn] of Bigvai, two thousand fifty-six; 15the descendants[fn] of Adin, four hundred and fifty-four; 16the descendants[fn] of Ater,particularly of Hezekiah, ninety-eight; 17the descendants[fn] of Bezai, three hundred and twenty-three; 18the descendants[fn] of Jorah, one hundred and twelve; 19the descendants[fn] of Hashum, two hundred and twenty-three; 20the descendants[fn] of Gibbar, ninety-five; 21the people[fn] of Bethlehem, one hundred and twenty-three; 22the men of Netophah, fifty-six; 23the men of Anathoth, one hundred and twenty-eight; 24the people[fn] of Azmaveth, forty-two; 25the people[fn]of Kiriath Αrim, Kephirah, and Beeroth, seven hundred and forty-three; 26the people[fn] of Ramah and Geba, six hundred and twenty-one; 27the men of Micmash, one hundred and twenty-two; 28the men of Bethel and Ai, two hundred and twenty-three; 29the people[fn] of Nebo, fifty-two; 30the people[fn] of Magbish, one hundred and fifty-six; 31the people[fn] of the other Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four; 32the people[fn] of Harim, three hundred and twenty; 33the people[fn] of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred and twenty-five; 34the people[fn] of Jericho, three hundred and forty-five; 35the people[fn] of Senaah, three thousand six hundred and thirty.

36The priests: the descendants[fn] of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred and seventy-three; 37the descendants[fn] of Immer, one thousand fifty-two; 38the descendants[fn] of Pashhur, one thousand two hundred and forty-seven; 39the descendants[fn] of Harim, one thousand seventeen.

40The Levites: the descendants[fn] of Jeshua and Kadmiel, of the descendants[fn] of Hodaviah, seventy-four.

41The singers: the descendants[fn] of Asaph, one hundred and twenty-eight.

42The descendants[fn] of the gatekeepers: the descendants[fn] of Shallum, the descendants[fn] of Ater, the descendants[fn] of Talmon, the descendants[fn] of Akkub, the descendants[fn] of Hatita, and the descendants[fn] of Shobai; in total one hundred and thirty-nine.

43The temple servants: the descendants[fn] of Ziha, the descendants[fn] of Hasupha, the descendants[fn] of Tabbaoth, 44the descendants[fn] of Keros, the descendants[fn] of Siaha, the descendants[fn] of Padon, 45the descendants[fn] of Lebanah, the descendants[fn] of Hagabah, the descendants[fn] of Akkub, 46the descendants[fn] of Hagab, the descendants[fn] of Shamlai, the descendants[fn] of Hanan, 47the descendants[fn] of Giddel, the descendants[fn] of Gahar, the descendants[fn] of Reaiah, 48the descendants[fn] of Rezin, the descendants[fn] of Nekoda, the descendants[fn] of Gazzam, 49the descendants[fn] of Uzza, the descendants[fn] of Paseah, the descendants[fn] of Besai, 50the descendants[fn] of Asnah, the descendants[fn] of Meunim, the descendants[fn] of Nephisim, 51the descendants[fn] of Bakbuk, the descendants[fn] of Hakupha, the descendants[fn] of Harhur, 52the descendants[fn] of Bazluth, the descendants[fn] of Mehida, the descendants[fn] of Harsha, 53the descendants[fn] of Barkos, the descendants[fn] of Sisera, the descendants[fn] of Temah, 54the descendants[fn] of Neziah, and the descendants[fn] of Hatipha.

55The descendants[fn] of Solomon’s servants: the descendants[fn] of Sotai, the descendants[fn] of Hassophereth, the descendants[fn] of Peruda, 56the descendants[fn] of Jaalah, the descendants[fn] of Darkon, the descendants[fn] of Giddel, 57the descendants[fn] of Shephatiah, the descendants[fn] of Hattil, the descendants[fn] of Pochereth-hazzebaim, and the descendants[fn] of Ami.

58All the temple servants and the descendants[fn] of Solomon’s servants were three hundred and ninety-two.

59Now these were the ones who came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer, but they were not able to prove their fathers’ household and their descent, if they were from Israel: 60the descendants[fn] of Delaiah, the descendants[fn] of Tobiah, and the descendants[fn] of Nekoda, six hundred and fifty-two. 61And from the descendants[fn] of the priests: the descendants[fn] of Habaiah, the descendants[fn] of Hakkoz, and the descendants[fn] of Barzillai (who took a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called by their name). 62These sought their record in the genealogy records, but they were not found, and were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.[fn] 63The governor said to them that they could not eat from the holy food of the sanctuary[fn] until there was present a priest for the Urim and Thummim.

64The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty, 65apart from their male and female servants, of whom were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and they had two hundred male and female singers. 66Their horses numbered seven hundred and thirty-six, their mules numbered two hundred and forty-five, 67their camels numbered four hundred and thirty-five, their donkeys numbered six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

Gifts Given for Temple Work

68When some of the heads of families[fn] came to the house of Yahweh thatis in Jerusalem, they gave freewill offerings for the house of God to erect it on its place. 69According to their ability they gave to the treasury room for the work sixty-one thousand darics of gold, five thousand minas of silver, and one hundred priestly tunics.

70The priests, the Levites, and some of the people lived in Jerusalem, and the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants lived in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.
