Psalm 81

81 For the chief musician; Asaph.

1 Shout joyfully to God, our strength;

shout out to the God of Jacob.

2 Raise a song and put forth the tambourine,

the pleasant harp with the lyre.

3 Blow a shofar at the new moon,

at the full moon for the day of our festival.

4 For, it is a statute for Israel,

a judgment of the God of Jacob.

5 He set it as a testimony in Joseph

when he went out over the land of Egypt,

where I heard a lip I did not know.

6 “I removed his shoulder from the burden;

his palms passed from the basket.

7 In distress you called, and I delivered you;

I answered you from the secret place of thunder.

I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah

8 Hear, my people, and let me testify against you.

Israel, if you would listen to me!

9 There shall not be a strange god among you,

and you shall not bow down to a god of foreignness.

10 I, am Yahweh your God,

the one having brought you up from the land of Egypt.

Open wide your mouth, and I will fill it.

11 But my people did not listen to my voice,

and Israel did not submit to me.

12 So I sent them away in the stubbornness of their heart;

they walked in their counsels.

13 If only my people were listening to me,

if Israel would walk in my ways!

14 As a little, thing I would subdue their enemies,

and I would turn my hand against their adversaries.

15 The haters of Yahweh would cringe before him,

and their time would be forever.

16 And he would feed him with the fat of the wheat,

and I would satisfy you with honey from the rock.”
