Psalm 88

88 A song. psalm. the sons of the chief musician. Afflicting.” maskil of Ezrahite.

1 Yahweh, God of my salvation,

by day, in the night, I cry out before you.

2 Let my prayer come to your face;

incline your ear to my cry.

3 For my soul is full of troubles,

and my life has come near to Sheol.

4 I am reckoned with the ones going down, into the pit;

I have become like a man without strength,

5 free among the ones having died,

like the slain lying in the grave,

whom you do not remember them anymore,

and they, they are cut off from your hand.

6 You have set me in the pit of the depths,

in dark places, in deep places.

7 Your wrath rests heavily on me,

and you overwhelm, me with all of your waves. Selah

8 You have distanced my acquaintances from me;

you have made me abominations to them.

I am shut in, and I do not go out.

9 My eye mourns from affliction.

I call out to you, Yahweh, in all of the day;

I spread out my palms to you.

10 Will you do a wonder for the ones having died?

Or will the Raphaites arise? Will they thank you? Selah

11 Will your covenant faithfulness be recounted in the grave,

your faithfulness in Abaddon?

12 Will your wonder be known in the darkness,

or your righteousness, in the land of forgetfulness?

13 But I, I cry out to you, Yahweh,

and in the morning my prayer precedes you.

14 Why, Yahweh, do you reject my soul?

Why do you hide your face from me?

15 I, have been weak and expiring since youth;

I have borne your terrors; I must despair.

16 Your indignations pass over me;

your terrors destroy me.

17 They surround me like water all of the day;

they close in upon me together.

18 You have distanced friend and acquaintance from me;

the ones known to me, are darkness.
