Psalm 44

44 For the chief musician. maskil the sons of

1 God, we have heard with our ears,

our fathers have recounted to us,

the work you worked in their days,

in the days of antiquity.

2 You, you drove out the nations, by your hand,

but you planted them.

You caused harm to the peoples,

but you sent them.

3 For they did not possess the land with their sword,

and their arm did not save them,

but your right hand and your arm and the light of your face,

for you favored them.

4 You, are he, my king, God.

Command the salvation of Jacob.

5 By you we gore our enemies;

by your name we trample the ones arising, against us.

6 For I do not trust in my bow,

and my sword does not save me,

7 but you save us from our enemies,

and you shame the ones hating us.

8 In God we boast all of the day,

and we will praise your name forever. Selah

9 But you have rejected and humiliated us,

and you do not go out with our armies.

10 You make us turn back from the enemy,

and the ones hating us plunder for themselves.

11 You have made us like sheep of food,

and you have scattered us among the nations.

12 You have sold your people for not-wealth,

and you have not increased by their price.

13 You have made us a reproach to our neighbors,

a scorn and a derision to, those around us.

14 You have made us a proverb among the nations,

a shaking of the head among the peoples.

15 All of the day my disgrace, is before me,

and the shame of my face covers me,

16 from the voice of one reproaching and one reviling,

from the face of an enemy and one avenging.

17 All of this has come, to us,

but we have not forgotten you

and we have not dealt falsely with your covenant.

18 Our heart has not turned itself back,

nor have our steps turned aside from your way.

19 But you have crushed us into a place of jackals,

and you have covered over us with a dark shadow.

20 If we had forgotten the name of our God

and spread out our palms to a foreign god,

21 would God not have discovered this?

For he is knowing the secrets of the heart.

22 But because of you we are killed all of the day,

we are considered like sheep of slaughter.

23 Awake! Why are you sleeping, Lord?

Wake up! Do not reject, us forever!

24 Why do you hide your face,

forget our affliction and our oppression?

25 For our soul has sunk down into the dust,

our belly clings to the earth.

26 Arise, as a helper to us

and redeem us because of your covenant faithfulness.
