Psalm 38

38 A psalm David; bring to remembrance.

1 Yahweh, do not rebuke me in your anger,

nor discipline me in your wrath.

2 For your arrows have sunk into me,

and your hand has come down on me.

3 There is no soundness in my flesh from the face of your indignation;

there is no peace in my bones from the face of my sin.

4 For my iniquities have passed over my head;

like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.

5 My wounds stink, they fester

from the face of my foolishness.

6 I am twisted; I am bowed down exceedingly;

all the day I go about mourning.

7 For my loins are full of burning,

and there is no soundness in my flesh.

8 I am numb and crushed exceedingly;

I roar from the groaning of my heart.

9 Lord, all of my desire, is before you,

and my sighing is not hidden from you.

10 My heart pounds; my strength has left me,

and the light of my eyes—even they, are not with me.

11 My loved ones and my friends stand from before my plague,

and my relatives stand from afar.

12 And the seekers of my life lay snares,

and the pursuers of my harm speak destructions

and mutter treacheries all the day.

13 But I, am like a deaf man; I do not hear,

and like a mute man—he does not open his mouth.

14 And I am like a man who is not hearing,

and there are no rebukes in his mouth.

15 Because for you, Yahweh, I have waited;

you, you will answer, Lord my God.

16 For I said, “Lest they rejoice over me;

at the slipping of my foot, they magnify themselves against me.”

17 For I am set up for a stumbling,

and my pain, is before me continually.

18 For I declare my iniquity;

I am anxious because of my sin.

19 But my living enemies are strong,

and my haters of falsehood are many.

20 And the repayers of evil in exchange for good

accuse me in exchange for my pursuing of good.

21 Do not forsake me, Yahweh;

my God, do not be far from me.

22 Hurry to my help,

Lord, my salvation.
