Psalm 51

51 For the chief musician. psalm of prophet him had gone in

1 Be merciful to me, God, according to your covenant faithfulness.

According to the multitude of your compassions, wipe away my transgressions.

2 Make great, wash me from my iniquity,

and cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I, I know my transgressions,

and my sin, is always before me.

4 Against you, you only, I have sinned

and done evil in your eyes,

so you are right in your speaking,

you are blameless in your judging.

5 Behold, I was born in iniquity,

and in sin my mother conceived me.

6 Behold, you desire truth in the kidneys,

and you teach me wisdom in the closed, place.

7 May you purify me with hyssop, that I may be clean.

May you wash me, that I may be whiter than snow.

8 Make me hear joy and gladness;

may the bones you have crushed rejoice.

9 Hide your face from my sins,

and wipe away all of my iniquities.

10 Create for me a clean heart, God,

and renew an established spirit within me.

11 May you not cast me away from your face,

and may you not take the Spirit of your holiness from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,

and support me, with a willing spirit.

13 Let me teach transgressors your ways,

that sinners may return to you.

14 Deliver me from blood, God, the God of my salvation,

may my tongue sing, about your righteousness.

15 Lord, may you open my lips,

that my mouth may declare your praise.

16 For you do not delight in sacrifice, or I would give, it;

you do not accept a burnt offering.

17 The sacrifices of God, are a broken spirit.

A broken and crushed heart, God, you will not despise.

18 Do good to Zion in your acceptance;

build the walls of Jerusalem.

19 Then you will delight in sacrifices of righteousness,

a burnt offering and a whole, one.

Then they will offer bulls on your altar.
