86 Turn this way and listen, Yahweh,

and answer me because I’m weak and needy.

2 Protect me, because I’m faithful.

My god, save your servant who trusts in you.

3 Be merciful to me, my master,

because I call out to you for help all day long.

4 Make your servant glad,

because I sincerely offer myself to you, my master.

5 You, my master, are good, and ready to forgive,

and you show loyal commitment to everyone who calls out to you for help.

6 Yahweh, listen to my prayer.

Hear the sound of my pleas.

7 In my times of trouble, I call to you for help,

because you’ll answer me.

8 There isn’t any other god who’s comparable with you, my master.

No one else does the things that you do.

9 All the nations that you’ve made will come and bow before you, my master.

They will honour your name

10 because you are powerful and do wonderful things.

You alone are God.

11 Teach me your ways, Yahweh, then I’ll walk in your truth.

Give me an undivided heart to revere you.

12 My master God, I’ll praise you with my entire being.

I’ll praise you forever

13 because your loyal commitment to me is so great.

You have rescued my life from the depths of the grave.

14 God, the arrogant have risen up against me.

A gang of violent men seek my life—

they don’t care what you might do to them.

15 But you, my master, are a merciful and gracious God,

slow to get angry, and generous with loyal commitment and trustworthiness.

16 Turn toward me and have mercy on me.

Give your strength to your servant.

Save the son of your servant woman.

17 Show me a sign of your favour,

then those who hate me will see it and be put to shame

because you, Yahweh, have helped me and comforted me.
