88.3 Quoniam dixisti. AUG. Utrumque repetit, quod prædixit. Quia universæ viæ Domini misericordia et veritas. TSNTyndale Study Notes:

Ps 88 In this lament, the psalmist sees himself as cast out from God’s presence. At first, he calls on the Lord. When he finds no relief from his suffering, he presents three charges against God (88:6-7, 8-12, 13-17).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

For I am filled with troubles

(Some words not found in UHB: come to=your=face prayer,my incline ear, your to,cry,my )

The writer speaks of himself as if he were a container and troubles are the contents that fill the container. Alternate translation: “For I am very troubled”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

my life has reached Sheol

(Some words not found in UHB: come to=your=face prayer,my incline ear, your to,cry,my )

Here “life” represents the writer. And “Sheol” represents death. The writer speaks about himself possibly dying soon as if Sheol were a place and he has arrived at that place. Alternate translation: “I am about to die” (See also: figs-metaphor)
