TSNTyndale Study Notes:

15:7 Anyone who escaped from one fire of God’s judgment (probably a reference to the defeat of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar in 597 BC; 2 Kgs 21:1-4) would simply fall into another (the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

General Information:

Yahweh speaks to Ezekiel about the people of Israel.

Note 1 topic: translate-symaction

(Occurrence 0) I will set my face against them

(Some words not found in UHB: and,set DOM face,my (is)_in=them from,the,fire escape and,the,fire consume,them and,know that/for/because/then/when I YHWH in/on/at/with,set,I DOM face,my in/on/at/with,them )

Yahweh speaks of being opposed to them as if he were to set his face against them. Alternate translation: “I will be against them” or “I will oppose them”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) set my face

(Some words not found in UHB: and,set DOM face,my (is)_in=them from,the,fire escape and,the,fire consume,them and,know that/for/because/then/when I YHWH in/on/at/with,set,I DOM face,my in/on/at/with,them )

When Yahweh says that people will know that he is Yahweh, he is implying that they will know that he is the one true God who has supreme authority and power. See how you translated this in Ezekiel 6:7. Alternate translation: “understand that I am Yahweh, the one true God” or “realize that I, Yahweh, have supreme power and authority”

Yahweh speaks of the punishment that he will afflict upon the people as if it were a fire that burns them.

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) the fire will consume them

(Some words not found in UHB: and,set DOM face,my (is)_in=them from,the,fire escape and,the,fire consume,them and,know that/for/because/then/when I YHWH in/on/at/with,set,I DOM face,my in/on/at/with,them )
