32 And the livestock for the sons of Reuben and for the sons of Gad was many, very mighty. And they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place, was a place of livestock. 2 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and said to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the congregation, saying, 3 “Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Sebam, and Nebo, and Beon, 4 the land that Yahweh struck to the face of the congregation of Israel, it, is a land of livestock, and to your servants, is livestock.” 5 And they said, “If we have found favor in your eyes, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. May you not pass us over the Jordan.”
6 And Moses said to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, “Will your brothers go to the battle, and you, you will dwell here? 7 And why do you forbid the heart of the sons of Israel from passing over to the land that Yahweh has given to them? 8 Thus your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to see the land. 9 And they went up as far as Wadi Eshkol, and they saw the land, and they forbade the heart of the sons of Israel not to go to the land that Yahweh had given to them. 10 And the nose of Yahweh burned on that day, and he swore, saying, 11 ‘If the men, the ones going up from Egypt, from a son of 20 years and upward, see the ground that I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob! For they did not fill after me, 12 except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, because they filled after Yahweh.’ 13 And the nose of Yahweh burned against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness 40 years, until the finishing of all the generation, the ones doing the evil in the eyes of Yahweh. 14 And behold, you have risen instead of your fathers, a brood of sinful men, to sweep away more upon the burning of the nose of Yahweh to Israel. 15 For you will return from after him, and he will add still to make him rest in the wilderness, and you will destroy all this people.”
16 And they came near to him and said, “We will build pens of a flock for our livestock here, and cities for our children. 17 And we, we will be equipped, being hurried, to the face of the sons of Israel, until whenever we have brought them to their place. And our children will dwell in the cities of the fortification from the face of the dwellers of the land. 18 We will not return to our houses until the sons of Israel have inherited, a man his inheritance. 19 For we will not inherit with them from across to the Jordan and beyond, for our inheritance has come to us from across the Jordan toward the sunrise.”
20 And Moses said to them, “If you do this word, if you are equipped to the face of Yahweh for the battle, 21 and every equipped one passes over the Jordan for you to the face of Yahweh until he has dispossessed his enemies from his face, 22 and the land is subdued to the face of Yahweh, then after you shall return, and you will be innocent from Yahweh and from Israel, and this land will be for you for a possession to the face of Yahweh. 23 But if you do not do so, behold, you have sinned against Yahweh, and know your sin, that it will find you. 24 Build for you cities for your children and pens for your flock, and the thing going out from your mouth you shall do.” 25 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben said to Moses, saying, “Your servants will do just as my master is commanding. 26 Our children, our wives, our livestock, and all our animals will be there in the cities of the Gilead. 27 And your servants will pass over, every equipped one of an army, to the face of Yahweh for the battle, just as my lord is speaking.”
28 And Moses commanded for them Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads of the fathers of the tribes for the sons of Israel. 29 And Moses said to them, “If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben pass over the Jordan with you, every equipped one for the war to the face of Yahweh, and the land is subdued to your faces, then you shall give to them the land of the Gilead for a possession. 30 But if they do not pass over, being equipped, with you, then they shall possess in your midst in the land of Canaan.” 31 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, saying, “What Yahweh has spoken to your servants, thus we will do. 32 We, we will pass over, being equipped, to the face of Yahweh, to the land of Canaan, and with us, will be the possession of our inheritance from across to the Jordan.”
33 And Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and to the half of the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon the king of the Amorite and the kingdom of Og the king of the Bashan, the land to its cities in the borders, the cities of the land all around. 34 And the sons of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer, 35 and Atroth Shophan and Jazer and Jogbehah, 36 and Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran, cities of fortification and pens of a flock. 37 And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kiriathaim 38 and Nebo and Baal Meon (being changed of name) and Sibmah. And they called by names the names of the cities that they built.
39 And the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and captured it, and he dispossessed the Amorite that, was in it. 40 And Moses gave the Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he dwelled in it.
41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and captured their villages, and he called them Havvoth Jair.
42 And Nobah went and captured Kenath and its daughters, and he called it Nobah, by his name.
