This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.
12:1 The discussion about rest days
12 [ref]At that time, Yeshua was going through some fields of grain on a rest day, and his apprentices were hungry and began to pluck some heads of grain and crunch them. 2 But some from the Pharisees party saw them and said, “Look, your followers are harvesting when it’s not permitted to harvest on a rest day.”
3 [ref]“Haven’t you read about what David did when him and his fighters were hungry?” Yeshua responded. 4 [ref]He went into God’s tent and they ate the Bread of the Presence which none of them were allowed to eat—only the priests. 5 [ref]Or haven’t you understood that when the priests work in the temple on the rest day, it’s against the law and yet they’re innocent? 6 But I’m telling you that someone greater than the temple is here. 7 [ref]But you all should have known that what I want is mercy over sacrifices—you shouldn’t have convicted the innocent 8 because humanity’s child is the master over the rest day.
2:23 Working on the Rest Day
23 [ref]And it so happened that Yeshua and his followers passed through some fields of grain on some days of rest. As they went through, they plucked off some heads of grain. 24 And some members of the Pharisee party said, “It’s breaking the law to harvest grain on a rest day!”
25 And Yeshua replied, “You’ve read yourselves what David did when him and his men were hungry. 26 [ref]They went into God’s tent and ate the holy bread representing the presence of God. Only the priests were allowed to eat that, and yet David even gave some to his men!” 27 And he told the Pharisees, “The days of rest were created for people, not people for the rest days. 28 So I, humanity’s child, have authority also over the day of rest.”
6:1 Master of the Rest Day
6 [ref]One Rest Day, Yeshua was walking through some fields of grain and his followers were plucking the heads of grain and rubbing them apart in their hands, then chewing the grains. 2 But some from the Pharisees party asked, “Why are you doing that? It’s prohibited to harvest on a Rest Day.”
3 “Haven’t you read about David,” Yeshua answered, “when him and his men were hungry and what they did? 4 [ref]“He went into God’s temple and took the ‘bread of the presence’ and ate some and gave some to his men, even though it’s only priests that are allowed to eat that.” 5 Then he added, “Humanity’s child is the master of the rest days.”

1Sam 21:1-6:
21:1 David stays at Nob
21 David went to the priest Ahimelek at Nob, but Ahimelek trembled when he saw David and asked him, “Why are you here by yourself? How come you don’t have a companion?”[ref]
2 “The king sent me on an errand,” David replied, “but he told me not to tell anyone about the matter that he sent me on. Plus I’ve told my young men where to meet me. 3 Now, what food do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread or whatever you can find.”
4 “There is no ordinary bread on hand,” the priest answered. “But there is the sacred bread, if only the young men have kept themselves from women.”
5 “There’s definitely been no women near us for three days,” David told the priest. “That’s how I always do missions. The men[fn] have been pure, even though it was a common journey, and today even more so.”
6 So the priest gave him the sacred bread, because there was no other bread there other than the previous day’s bread of the presence which had been removed from in front of Yahweh to be replaced by fresh bread.[ref]
21:5 The Hebrew says ‘the men’s vessels’ (or ‘containers’). It’s not culturally clear if that referred to their ‘bodies’ (as this translation implies) or to something they carried.

13 [ref]So go and find out the meaning of this: I like mercy not sacrifice. Because it’s sinners that I came to call, not those considered righteous.”
