BrTr (SA1 21:3) And David said to the priest, The king gave me a command to-day, and said to me, Let no one know the matter on which I send thee, and concerning which I have charged thee: and I have charged my servants to be in the place that is called, [fn]The faithfulness of God, [fn]phellani maemoni.

21:3 This is another instance of double translation, מקוצ suggesting probably both the idea of place and faithfulness.

ULT And David said to Ahimelech the priest, “The king has commanded me, regarding a matter and has said to me, ‘May a man not know anything, about the matter, for which I am sending you and, about which I have commanded you.’ And I have informed the young men about a certain unnamed place.

UST David did not tell him the truth. He told Ahimelech, “I have come on a special mission from the king. I am alone because he told me that no one should find out about what he sent me to do. But I will have soldiers with me. I have told them to meet me at a specific place, but I must not say where that is.
