BSB § But David again vowed, “Your father knows very well that I have found favor in your eyes, and he has said, ‘Jonathan must not know of this, or he will be grieved.’ As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, there is but a step between me and death.”

OEB David answered, ‘Your father well knows that I have found favour in your eyes, and he is saying to himself, “Let not Jonathan know this or he will be pained.” Nevertheless as surely as the Lord lives, and as you live, there is but a step between me and death.’

LUT Da schwur David weiter und sprach: Dein Vater weiß wohl, daß ich Gnade vor deinen Augen funden habe, darum wird er denken: Jonathan soll solches nicht wissen, es möchte ihn bekümmern. Wahrlich, so wahr der HErr lebet, und so wahr deine SeeLE lebet, es ist nur ein Schritt zwischen mir und dem Tode!

CLV Et juravit rursum Davidi. Et ille ait: Scit profecto pater tuus quia inveni gratiam in oculis tuis, et dicet: Nesciat hoc Jonathas, ne forte tristetur. Quinimmo vivit Dominus, et vivit anima tua, quia uno tantum (ut ita dicam) gradu ego morsque dividimur.[fn]
  (And yuravit again Davidi. And ille ait: Scit profecto pater tuus because inveni gratiam in oculis tuis, and dicet: Nesciat hoc Yonathas, ne forte tristetur. Quinimmo vivit Master, and vivit anima tua, because uno only (ut ita dicam) gradu I morsque dividimur.)

BRN And David answered Jonathan, and said, Thy father knows surely that I have found grace in thy sight, and he said, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he refuse his consent: but as the Lord lives and thy soul lives, as I said, the space is filled up between me and death.
