Literal Version

3:1 Advice to married couples

3[ref]Similarly, women should be subject to their husbands, so that if any of them don’t believe the message, they’ll be won by the conduct of their wives even without hearing the message, 2because they’ll be able to observe the pure conduct of their wives. 3[ref]These women shouldn’t focus on outward appearances like the braids in their hair, or gold jewelry or expensive clothes, 4but on the inner person with a gentle and quiet spirit that’s indestructible and which God considers precious. 5That was how holy women in the past adorned themselves—those whose hope was in God 6[ref]like Sarah who submitted to Abraham who you are all descended from. She called himmaster’, doing good and without any worries.

7[ref]Similarly men should live with their wives with understanding like you’d handle something more fragile. They should display honour to their fellow recipients of life-giving grace so that their prayers won’t be hindered.

3Likewise, women, being_subjected to_your own husbands, in_order_that even if any are_disbelieving in_the message, they_will_be_being_won by the conduct of_their wives apart_from message, 2having_observed the pure conduct in respect of_you_all.
3Of_whom it_let_be not the person outwardly of_braid of_hairs and of_putting_about of_gold or adorning of_dresses of_clothes, 4but the hidden person of_the heart, in the indestructible beauty of_the gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious before the god.
5For/Because thus once also the holy women which hoping in god were_adorning themselves, being_subjected to_their own husbands, 6as Sarra/(Sārāh) submitted to_ the _Abraʼam/(ʼAⱱrāhām):
calling him master, of_whom you_all_were_become children, doing_good and not fearing not_one fear.
7The men, likewise dwelling_with them according_to knowledge, as with_a_weaker vessel with_the feminine, rendering_out honour as also to_fellow-heirs of_the_grace of_life, in_order that the prayers of_you_all to_ not _be_being_hindered.

3:8 Suffering for doing good

8Finally, everyone should be agreeable and sympathetic to others, kind and caring towards those around you, humble 9and not repaying evil with evil or insult with insult, but rather be a blessing to others. You were called to do that so that you all can receive a blessing. 10[ref]because it’s written:

‘The person wanting to enjoy life and see good days,

let their tongue cease from evil,

and their lips to not speak deceit.

11Let them turn away from evil and do good,

let them look for peace and chase after it,

12because the master’s eyes are on the righteous,

and his ears listen to their petition,

but the master turns his face away from those who do evil.’

13Then who would mistreat you if you all become active at doing good, 14[ref]but even if some of you do suffer because of your godliness, you will be blessed. Don’t be scared or disturbed because of your fear of them, 15but revere the messiah as the master of your hearts. Always be ready to explain the hope that you all have if anyone asks, 16but do it with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that if you’re accused falsely of doing evil, then it’ll be the ones who mistreat you all because of your good conduct in the message who will be disgraced. 17Because it is better to do good and then, if God wills it, to suffer, than to do evil. 18Because the messiah also died once for sin, i.e., the sinless one died for sinful people, so that he can bring you all past death onward to God. Although he experienced physical death, he had been given life in the spirit 19and with that life he also went to the spirits in prison and preached to them— 20[ref]those who had refused to believe. God had waited patiently in the time of Noah when the barge was being built yet only a few were saved. Eight of them were brought safely through the waters 21which also represents how being immersed saved you all. It doesn’t remove the filth from your bodies, but cleans the conscience as you pledge to God through the resurrection of Yeshua the messiah, 22who went to heaven and sat on God’s right, with God’s messengers and authorities and powers all under his authority.

8And the end, all being, like_minded, sympathetic, brother-loving, tender-hearted, humble, 9not giving_back evil for evil, or insult for insult, but instead blessing, that to this you_all_were_called, in_order_that you_all_may_inherit blessing.
10For/Because the one wanting life to_be_loving, and to_see good days, let_ his tongue _cease from evil, and ^his_lips which not to_speak deceit.
11And let_him_turn_away from evil, and let_him_do good, let_him_seek peace and let_him_pursue it.
12Because the_eyes of_the_master are on the_righteous, and the_ears of_him toward the_petition of_them, but the_face of_the_master is against those_doing evil.
13And who is the one going_to_mistreat you_all, if you_all_may_become zealous for_the good?
14But if even might_be_suffering because_of righteousness, you_are blessed.
And the fear of_them, neither be_afraid nor you_all_may_be_disturbed,
15But as_master the chosen_one/messiah sanctify in the hearts of_you_all, always be ready for a_defense to_everyone which requesting you_all an_account, concerning the hope in you_all, 16but with gentleness and respect, having a_ good _conscience, in_order_that in which they_are_slandering of_you_all as evildoers, the ones mistreating of_you_all may_be_disgraced the good conduct in chosen_one/messiah.
17For/Because it_is better to_be_suffering doing_good, if the will of_ the _god might_be_willing it, than doing_evil.
18Because also chosen_one/messiah died_off once for the_sins the_righteous for the_unrighteous, in_order_that he_may_bringing_forward you_all to_ the _god, on_one_hand having_been_put_to_death in_the_flesh, on_the_other_hand having_been_given_life in_the_spirit, 19in which also having_been_gone to_the to_spirits in prison he_proclaimed, 20to_having_disbelieved ones once when the patience of_ the _god was_eagerly_waiting in the_days of_Nōe/(Noaḩ), the_box being_prepared in which a_few, this is, eight souls, were_brought_safely_through through the_water.
21Which also representative now the_immersion is_saving you_all, not a_removal of_the_filth of_flesh, but of_a_ good _conscience, the_inquiry toward god through the_resurrection of_Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) chosen_one/messiah, 22having_been_gone into heaven who is at the_right hand of_god, with_messengers, and authorities, and powers having_been_subjected to_him.
