This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.
22 Then Yehoshua summoned the tribes of Reuben and Gad, and the Menashsheh half-tribe 2 and told them, “You yourselves have obeyed everything that Yahweh’s servant Mosheh instructed you to do. In addition, you’ve all followed everything that I told you.[ref] 3 You’ve all supported your fellow tribes all this time and fulfilled what your god Yahweh requested of you all, 4 and now he has enabled these other tribes to rest from battle just like he told them he would. So now, you all may go back to your homes that Yahweh’s servant Mosheh gave you on the other side of the river. 5 Only do take care to continue to obey the instructions and the law that Yahweh’s servant Mosheh gave you: to love your god Yahweh, to follow him and his instructions, to stay close to him, and to serve him with all your hearts and your inner selves.” 6 Then Yehoshua blessed them and sent them on their way to return to their homes. 7 (Mosheh had given the Bashan to the half of the Menashsheh half-tribe, and Yehoshua had given land on the western side of the Yordan to the other half.) When he’d blessed them 8 he’d said, “Go back to your homes with many riches: plenty of livestock, and with silver, gold, bronze, and iron, and with lots of clothing. Share the plunder from your enemies with those who remained behind.” 9 So the warriors from the tribes of Reuven, Gad, and the Menashsheh half-tribe left the others there at Shiloh in the Canaan region, and went back to their own land in Gilead across the river which they had taken for themselves with the agreement of Yahweh given through Mosheh.
Num 32:20-32:
20 “If you’re going to do that,” Mosheh responded, “then you all must equip yourselves to fight battles for Yahweh, 21 and all of your armed warriors must cross the Yarden to serve Yahweh until he’s driven his enemies out ahead of him. 22 Once the land is subdued before Yahweh, then you all can return. You’ll be free of obligation from Yahweh and from Yisrael, and this land here will be your possession from Yahweh. 23 However, if you all don’t help the rest of us, you will be disobeying Yahweh, and your disobedience will catch up with you. 24 So go ahead and build your cities for your families, and pens for your flocks, and do what you’ve committed to.”
25 “Your servants will do what you’ve said,” confirmed the leaders of the Reuven and Gad tribes. 26 “Our wives and children, and our livestock and all our animals will remain in cities here in the Gilead region, 27 but we’ll equip ourselves for battle and to cross the river to battle for Yahweh just as my master has spoken.”
28 So Mosheh gave instructions about them to the priest Eleazar, Nun’s son Yehoshua, and the Israeli tribal leaders,[ref] 29 telling them, “If the men from Gad and Reuven tribes cross over the Yarden with you and equipped ready to fight for Yahweh and that land is conquered, then you must give them the Gilead region for them to own. 30 However, if they don’t cross over with the rest of you, then they’ll have to accept land to own there in Kanaan (Canaan).”
31 “What Yahweh has told you, his servants, that’s what we’ll do,” the leaders of the Gad and Reuven tribes responded. 32 We’ll send armed men across to Kanaan, equipped to fight for Yahweh. However, our inheritance to own will be here on this side of the Yarden river.”
Josh 1:12-15:
12 To the descendants of Reuben and Gad, and to the half-tribe of Menashsheh, Yehoshua said,[ref] 13 “Remember what Yahweh’s servant Mosheh informed you: Your god Yahweh is about give this land to you and to enable you all to settle down. 14 Your women and children and your livestock will stay here in the land that Mosheh allocated to you on this eastern side of the Yordan River. But your soldiers must dress for battle and cross over ahead of your brothers and help them 15 until Yahweh enables your brothers to take over the land that your god Yahweh is about to give them so they can settle like you all have. Then you’ll all be able to return to this land which Yahweh’s servant Mosheh gave you on this eastern side of the Yordan and take full control of it.”
