TSNTyndale Study Notes:

3:8 The high priest Jeshua and the other priests were symbols of greater realities.
• Servant and Branch are both titles for the Messiah (Isa 42:1; 53:2; Jer 23:5; 33:15). As servant, the Messiah obeys God’s will by becoming a sin offering so that many might be made righteous (Isa 53:11; see Acts 3:13; 4:27). The Branch is a metaphor for kingship that identifies the Messiah as David’s descendant (Isa 11:1; Jer 23:5).

This phrase refers to other priests who would serve in the temple under the leadership of Joshua. Alternate translation: “the other priests who live with you”

(Occurrence 0) For these men are a sign

(Some words not found in UHB: listen now Yəhōshūˊa the=priest/officer the,high you(ms) and,colleagues,your the,sitting to=your=face that/for/because/then/when men_of sign they(emph) that/for/because/then/when behold,I bring DOM servant,my branch )

Here the word “sign” refers to something that communicates a special meaning to those who see it. Yahweh speaks of the priests serving in the temple as being this sign that shows that Yahweh will bring his servant.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) my servant the Branch

(Some words not found in UHB: listen now Yəhōshūˊa the=priest/officer the,high you(ms) and,colleagues,your the,sitting to=your=face that/for/because/then/when men_of sign they(emph) that/for/because/then/when behold,I bring DOM servant,my branch )

The word “Branch” refers to a messianic figure that would serve as king over Yahweh’s people. Yahweh speaks of this person as if he were a branch that grows out from a tree. Since the word “Branch” is a title, it should be translated with an equivalent word in your language.
