AICNT MAT Chapter 8

MAT 8 ©

8And when he came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him. 2And behold, a leper came up and worshiped[fn] him, saying, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” 3And [[Jesus]][fn] stretching out his hand, he touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

5When he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him, pleading with him, 6and saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, terribly tormented.” 7And {he}[fn] said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8{And}[fn] the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy for you to come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9For I too am a man [[being appointed]],[fn] under authority, having soldiers under me, and I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

10When Jesus heard this, he marveled[fn] and said to those following him, “Truly, I tell you, I have not found such great faith in Israel. 11And I tell you that many will come from the east and the west and will recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of the heavens, 12but the sons of the kingdom[fn] will be thrown into the outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go, as you have believed, let it be done to you.” And {the}[fn] servant was healed in that hour.

14And when Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying down and suffering from a fever; 15and he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she got up and served {him}.[fn]

16When evening came, they brought to him many who were demon-possessed; and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill, 17so that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled, saying, “He took our weaknesses, and he bore the diseases.”[fn]

18And when Jesus saw {a crowd}[fn] around him, he ordered to go to the other side. 19And one scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have dens and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

21But another of {the}[fn] disciples said to him, “Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father.”

22But {Jesus}[fn] {says}[fn] to him, “Follow me and let the dead bury their own dead.”

23And when he got into {a}[fn] boat, his disciples followed him. 24And behold, a great earthquake[fn] occurred in the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the waves, but he was sleeping. 25And {they}[fn] came and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us, we are perishing.” 26And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

27And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?”

28And when he came to the other side, to the country of the {Gadarenes},[fn] two demon-possessed men met him, coming out of the tombs, extremely fierce, so that no one could pass by that way. 29And behold, they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with you, [[Jesus]][fn] Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” 30Now there was a herd of many pigs feeding at a distance from them. 31The demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, {send us}[fn] into the herd of pigs.” 32And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the [[heard of]][fn] pigs; and behold, the whole herd [[of pigs]][fn] rushed down the steep bank into the sea and died in the waters.

33The herdsmen fled, and going into the city, they reported everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to depart from their region.
