BLB MARK Chapter 8

MARK 8 ©

8In those days, of the crowd again being great and not having what they might eat, having summoned the disciples, He says to them, 2"I am moved with compassion upon the crowd, because they continue with Me three days already, and have nothing that they might eat. 3And if I shall send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. For some of them are come from afar." 4And His disciples answered Him, "From where will anyone be able to satisfy these with bread, here in this desolate place?" 5And He was asking them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven." 6And He directs the crowd to recline on the ground. And having taken the seven loaves, having given thanks, He broke them and kept giving them to His disciples, that they might set before them. And they set it before the crowd. 7And they had a few small fish. And having blessed them, He ordered these also to be set before them. 8And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up seven baskets of fragments over and above. 9And there were about four thousand. And He sent them away. 10And immediately having entered into the boat with His disciples, He came into the district of Dalmanutha. 11And the Pharisees went out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him. 12And having sighed deeply in His spirit, He says, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation." 13And having left them, having embarked again, He went away to the other side. 14And they forgot to take loaves, and except one loaf, they did not have any with them in the boat. 15And He was instructing them, saying, "Watch out! Take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod." 16And they were reasoning with one another because they had no loaves. 17And having known, He says to them, "Why do you reason because you have no loaves? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Do you have your heart hardened? 18Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear?' And do you not remember? 19When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of fragments did you take up?" They say to Him, "Twelve." 20"And when the seven were to the four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?" And they said, "Seven." 21And He was saying to them, "Do you not yet understand?" 22And they come to Bethsaida. And they bring to Him a blind man and implore Him that He might touch him. 23And having taken hold of the hand of the blind man, He led him forth out of the village, and having spit upon his eyes, having laid the hands upon him, He was asking him if you see anything. 24And having looked up, he was saying, "I see the men, for I see them as trees walking." 25Then He laid the hands upon his eyes again, and he opened his eyes and was restored, and he began to see everything clearly. 26And He sent him to his home, saying, "You may not enter into the village." 27And Jesus and His disciples went forth into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way, He was questioning His disciples, saying to them, "Whom do men pronounce Me to be?" 28And they answered Him, saying, "John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets." 29And He was questioning them, "But whom do you pronounce Me to be?" Peter answering, says to Him, "You are the Christ." 30And He warned them that they should tell no one concerning Him. 31And He began to teach them that it is necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise again. 32And He was speaking openly the word. And Peter having taken Him to him, began to rebuke Him. 33And having turned and having looked upon His disciples, He rebuked Peter, and said, "Get behind Me, Satan, for your thoughts are not of the things of God, but the things of men." 34And having summoned the crowd with His disciples, He said to them, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and let him take up his cross, and let him follow Me. 35For whoever might desire to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life on account of Me and of the gospel, he will save it. 36For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and to lose his soul? 37For what shall a man give as an exchange for his soul? 38For whoever may be ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also will be ashamed of him when He shall come in the glory of His Father, with the holy angels."
