Literal Version

8:1 Yeshua feeds 4,000 people

(Mat. 15:32-39)

8Another time there was a large crowd again with nothing to eat. Yeshua called his apprentices and told them, 2I feel sorry for all these people because they’ve already been with us for three days and don’t have anything to eat. 3I can’t send them home because they’re too weak to walk, and some have a long way to go.

4His apprentices queried, “Where could anyone find enough food out here in the wilderness?”

5He asked, “How much bread have you all got?

Seven buns,” they answered.

6So Yeshua instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven buns, gave thanks and broke them and gave pieces to his apprentices to then distribute to the crowd. 7They also had a few small cooked fish, so he blessed them too and got them to distribute them as well. 8After all the people had eaten and were full, they collected seven basketfuls of leftovers. 9There were some four thousand people there that day, and Yeshua sent them home after they’d eaten. 10And he and his apprentices climbed into the boat and headed for the Dalmanutha region.

8In those the days again the_crowd of_being great and not having anything they_may_eat, having_called_to the apprentices/followers of_him he_is_saying to_them, 2I_am_feeling_compassion for the crowd, because they_are_ already _remaining with_me three days and they_are_ not _having anything they_may_eat.
3And if I_may_send_ them _away hungry to home of_them, they_will_be_being_exhausted on the way.
And some of_them have_come from afar.
4And the apprentices/followers of_him answered to_him:
From_where will_ anyone _be_able to_satisfy these with_loaves here in wilderness?
5And he_was_asking them:
How_many loaves are_you_all_having?
And they said:
Seven.
6And he_is_commanding to_the crowd to_sit_down on the ground.
And having_taken the seven loaves, having_given_thanks he_broke and he_was_giving to_the apprentices/followers of_him, in_order_that they_may_be_setting_before them, and they_set_before it to_the crowd.
7And were_having a_few little_fishes, and having_blessed them, he_told also these things to_be_setting_before them.
8And they_ate and were_satisfied, and they_took_up the_excess of_fragments seven baskets.
9And they_were they having_eaten about four_thousand.
And he_sent_ them _away.
10And immediately having_boarded into the boat with the apprentices/followers of_him, he_came into the districts of_Dalmanoutha.

8:11 The religious leaders want to see a miracle

(Mat. 16:1-4)

11[ref]Some men from the Pharisee party came out to Yeshua and started arguing with him. They were checking him out and wanted to see a miracle. 12[ref]Yeshua grieved inside and asked, “Why do you people need to see a miracle before you’ll believe me? Actually, no miracle will be done for this generation.

13So Yeshua left in the boat again and crossed to the other side of the lake.

11And the Farisaios_party came_out and they_began to_be_debating against_him, seeking a_sign from the sky from him, testing him.
12And having_sighed_deeply in_the spirit of_him he_is_saying:
Why the is_ this generation _seeking a_sign?
Truly, I_am_saying to_you_all, a_sign will_ never _be_being_given to_ the this _generation.
13And having_sent_away them, having_boarded again he_went_away to the side across.

8:14 The apprentices miss the significance of what’s happening

(Mat. 16:5-12)

14But Yeshua’s apprentices forgot to take any food other than one bun that someone in the boat had. 15[ref]He told them, “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and of King Herod.

16They asked each other what it meant—was it because they forgot food?

17But Yeshua knew what they were saying and asked, “Why are you all discussing about not having food? Can’t you figure it out? Or are your minds completely closed? 18[ref]You all have eyes but can’t seem to see and have ears but can’t seem to listen. Have you already forgotten what just happened? 19When I broke up the five buns to feed five thousand people, how many basketfuls of leftovers did you collect?

Twelve,” they answered.

20“And when we fed four thousand with seven buns, how many full baskets of leftovers then?”

Seven,” they answered.

21Yeshua asked, “How can you all not understand what’s going on right in front of you!

14And they_forgot to_take loaves, and except not/lest one loaf they_were_ not _having with themselves in the boat.
15And he_was_instructing to_them saying:
Be_seeing, be_watching_out for the leaven of_the Farisaios_party and of_the leaven of_Haʸrōdaʸs.
16And they_were_reasoning with one_another, because they_are_ not _having loaves.
17And having_known it, the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) is_saying to_them:
Why are_you_all_reasoning because you_all_are_ not _having loaves?
You_all_are_ not_yet _understanding, nor you_all_are_understanding?
Are_you_all_having the heart of_you_all having_been_hardened?
18Having eyes, you_all_are_ not _seeing?
And having ears, you_all_are_ not _hearing?
And you_all_are_ not _remembering?
19When I_broke the five loaves for the five_thousand, how_many baskets full of_fragments you_all_took_up?
They_are_saying to_him:
Twelve.
20And when the seven for the four_thousand, of_how_many baskets the_fillings of_fragments you_all_took_up?
and they_are_saying Seven.
21And he_was_saying to_them:
How you_all_are_ not_yet _understanding?

8:22 Yeshua heals a blind man near Bethsaida

22As they entered Bethsaida, the people brought a blind man to Yeshua and asked him to touch him. 23So Yeshua took the man’s hand and led him out of the village. Then he spat in his eyes, placed his hands on him, and asked him, “What can you see?

24The man looked around and answered, “I can see the people, but they just look like trees.” 25Yeshua touched the man’s eyes again and then he could see clearly—he was now completely better. 26Then Yeshua told him not to go back into the village but to go straight home.

22And they_are_coming to Baʸthsaida, and they_are_bringing a_blind man to_him, and they_are_imploring him that he_may_touch against_him.
23And having_taken_hold of_the hand of_the blind man, he_brought_ him _out out of_the village, and having_spat in the eyes of_him, having_laid_on the hands on_him, he_was_asking him:
- Are_you_seeing anything?
24And having_looked_up he_was_saying:
I_am_seeing the people, because I_am_seeing them walking as trees.
25Thereafter again he_laid_on the hands on the eyes of_him, and he_saw_clearly and he_restored him and he_was_looking_at all things clearly.
26And he_sent_ him _out to the_home of_him saying:
You_may_ not _come_in into the village.

8:27 Yeshua asks who they think he is

(Mat. 16:13-20, Luke 9:18-21)

27Then Yeshua and his followers moved around the various villages of Caesaria Philippi. On the way, he asked them, “Who does everyone think I am?

28[ref]They said, “Some say Yohan-the-immerser, some say Eliyah, and some say one of the prophets.”

29[ref]Then he asked, “And what do you all think?

Peter said, “You are the promised one sent by God.”

30Then Yeshua warned them not to tell others about him.

27And the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) and the apprentices/followers of_him came_out into the villages of_Kaisareia which Filippou.
And on the way he_was_asking the apprentices/followers of_him saying to_them:
Whom are_ the people _saying me to_be?
28And they spoke to_him saying, that Yōannaʸs the immerser, and others Aʸlias/(ʼĒliyyāh), but others that one of_the prophets.
29And he was_asking them:
But whom you_all are_saying me to_be?
And the Petros answering is_saying to_him:
You are the chosen_one/messiah.
30And he_warned to_them that they_may_be_telling no_one concerning him.

8:31 Yeshua’s radical challenge to his would-be followers

(Mat. 16:21-28, Luke 9:22-27)

31Then Yeshua began teaching his followers that humanity’s child would need to suffer a lot, to be rejected by the religious leaders, and so to be put to death but to come back to life after three days. 32He taught this very clearly, but Peter took him aside and told him off. 33Yeshua turned back and looked at the others, then reprimanded Peter, “Stand back, Satan! you’re applying human values instead of considering God’s plan.

34[ref]Calling out to them and to the crowd, he said, “Anyone who wants to follow me must first put aside their own desires and then follow me—even through very difficult times. 35[ref]Anyone who worries about saving their own life will lose it, but anyone who gives their life due to following me and my teaching will save their life. 36Because it doesn’t benefit a person if they gain everything in the world but lose their soul. 37What can someone offer in order to buy a home for their soul? 38Yes, anyone who is ashamed of me and my message in front of this adulterous and sinful generation, humanity’s child will likewise be ashamed of them when he comes clearly displaying God’s greatness and bringing the holy messengers.

31And he_began to_be_teaching them that it_is_fitting the son of_ the _man to_suffer many things, and to_be_rejected by the elders and the chief_priests and the scribes, and to_be_killed_off, and to_rise_up after three days.
32And he_was_speaking the message with_plainness.
And having_taken_ him _aside, the Petros began to_be_giving_rebuke to_him.
33And he, having_been_turned_back and having_seen the apprentices/followers of_him, gave_rebuke to_ the _Petros and is_saying:
Be_going behind me, Satan/(Sāţān), because you_are_ not _thinking the things of_ the _god, but the things of_ the _humans.
34And having_called_to the crowd with the apprentices/followers of_him, he_said to_them:
If anyone is_wanting to_be_following after me, let_him_renounce himself and let_him_take_up the stake of_him, and let_him_be_following after_me.
35For/Because whoever if may_be_wanting to_save the life of_him, will_be_losing it, but whoever wishfully will_be_losing the life of_him on_account me and of_the good_message, will_be_saving it.
36For/Because what is_it_benefiting a_person, he_may_gain the whole world and the soul of_him to_be_lost?
37For/Because what will_ a_person _be_giving as_an_exchange for_the soul of_him?
38For/Because whoever if may_be_ashamed_of me and the my messages in the this the adulterous and sinful generation, the son of_ the _man will_ also _be_being_ashamed of_him whenever he_may_come in the glory of_the father of_him with the the holy messengers.
