TSNTyndale Study Notes:

8:27-38 Peter’s declaration of Jesus as Messiah and Jesus’ first prediction of his death mark a turning point in Mark’s Gospel and a new stage in Jesus’ life. The question, “Who is this man?” raised by the disciples in 4:41, is now answered by Peter.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / quotations

ἐπετίμησεν αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδενὶ λέγωσιν περὶ αὐτοῦ

˱he˲_warned ˱to˲_them that no_one ˱they˲_/may_be/_telling concerning him

It may be more natural in your language to have a direct quotation here. Alternate translation: “he strongly warned them, ‘Tell no one about me’”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

περὶ αὐτοῦ

concerning him

Here Mark implies that Jesus warned the disciples to tell no one about who he really was. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make that idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “that he was the Christ” or “about his true identity”
