25Then David and the army chiefs allocated the musical service to the sons of Asaf, Heman, and Yedutun—the ones prophesying with harps, with lyres, and with cymbals. This is a list of the men they chose for that work:

6All of those served as musicians in Yahweh’s temple under their fathers’ supervision—they played cymbals, harps, and lyres. Their fathers were supervised by the king. 7There were 288 of those men and their musical relatives who played to Yahweh. 8They used a process of choosing randomly to determine their duties, whether young or old, and irrespective of their musical abilities.
