Open English Translation 1 CHR Chapter 27

27 This is a list of the Israeli men who served the king in the army. Some were leaders of families, some were commanders of divisions of a thousand, some were commanders of divisions of a hundred, and some were other officers. There were twenty-four thousand men in each group, and each group served one month each year.

• 2 Zavdiel’s son Yashoveam was in charge of the group that served during the first month each year.
  3 He was a descendant of Perets, and was the commander of all the army officers during the first month each year.
• 4 Dodai (the Ahohite) was the commander of the group that served during the second month each year. Miklot was also a leader in that group.
• 5 Benayah, son of Yehoyada the high priest, was the commander of the group that served during the third month each year.
  6 He was the strongest of ‘the thirty’ and was their leader. His son was Ammizavad.
• 7 The fourth leader, for the fourth month, was Yoav’s brother Asahel, and then his son Zevadyah succeeded him. His division was twenty-four thousand men.
• 8 The fifth leader, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhut the Yizrahite. His division was twenty-four thousand men.
• 9 The sixth leader, for the sixth month, was Ikkesh’s son Ira the Tekoite. His division was twenty-four thousand men.
• 10 The seventh leader, for the seventh month, was Helets the Peloite (an Eframite). His division was twenty-four thousand men.
• 11 The eighth leader, for the eighth month, was Sivkay the Hushatite (a Zerahite). His division was twenty-four thousand men.
• 12 The ninth leader, for the ninth month, was Aviezer the Anatotite (a Benyamite). His division was twenty-four thousand men.
• 13 The tenth leader, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netofatite (a Zerahite). His division was twenty-four thousand men.
• 14 The eleventh leader, for the eleventh month, was Benayah the Piratonite (an Eframite). His division was twenty-four thousand men.
• 15 The twelfth leader, for the twelfth month, was Heldai the Otnielite (a Netofatite). His division was twenty-four thousand men.

16 There were certain tribal leaders over each of Yisrael’s tribes:

• Zikri’s son Eliezer was the leader of the tribe of Reuven.
• Maakah’s son Shefatyah was the leader of the tribe of Shimeon.
• 17 Kemuel’s son Hashavyah was the leader of the Levites.
• Tsadok was the leader of Aharon’s descendants.
• 18 David’s older brother Elihu was the leader of the tribe of Yehudah.
• Mikael’s son Omri was the leader of the tribe of Yissakar.
• 19 Ovadyah’s son Yishmayah was the leader of the tribe of Zevulun.
• Azriel’s son Yerimot was the leader of the tribe of Naftali.
• 20 Azazyah’s son Hoshea was the leader of the tribe of Efrayim.
• Pedayah’s son Yoel was the leader of the half-tribe of Menashsheh.
• 21 Zekaryah’s son Yiddo was the leader of the half-tribe of Menashsheh in Gilead.
• Avner’s son Yaasiel was the leader of the tribe of Benyamin.
• 22 Yeroham’s son Azarel was the leader of the tribe of Dan.

Those were the commanders of Yisrael’s tribes.

23 David hadn’t included men who were less than twenty years old when he’d ordered a census, because Yahweh had promised that he would multiply the Israelis like stars in the sky.[ref] 24 Yoav (Tseruyah’s son) began the count, but never finished it, because Yahweh’s anger had struck Yisrael, so the census result wasn’t recorded in the record of King David’s reign.[ref]

• 25 Adiel’s son Azmavet supervised the king’s treasuries.
• Uzziyah’s son Yonatan was in charge of the storehouses in the countryside and in the cities and villages, and in the watchtowers.
• 26 Keluv’s son Ezri supervised the farm workers.
• 27 Shimei the Ramatite supervised the king’s vineyards.
• Zavdi the Shifmite supervised the wine vats.
• 28 Baal-Hanan the Gederite supervised the olive groves and the sycamore trees in the lowlands.
• Yoash supervised the olive oil storage.
• 29 Shitrai from the Plain of Sharon was in charge of the herds of cattle that grazed there.
• Adlai’s son Shafat was in charge of the cattle in the valleys.
• 30 Ovil the Yishmaelite was in charge of the camels.
• Yehdiyah the Meronotite was in charge of the donkeys.
• 31 Yaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the flocks of sheep and goats.

All of those officials supervised King David’s property.

• 32 David’s uncle Yonatan was a wise adviser and a copyist.
• Hakmoni’s son Yehiel attended to the king’s sons.
• 33 Ahitofel was the king’s adviser.
• Hushai the Arkite was the king’s friend.
• 34 Ahitofel was succeeded by Benayah’s son Yehoyada, then by Avyatar.
• Yoav (Joab) was the commander of the king’s army.
