MSG(7-10)Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.

2:1-10 Paul reflects on the terrible situation of the believers before they believed in Christ and the grace of God that has spared them.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

γὰρ

for

The connecting word For introduces a reason-result relationship. The reason is that the Ephesians had been saved by God, and not by their own good works. The result is that people would see the grace of God to us in Christ. Use a phrase in your language that connects a reason to a result.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

τῇ γὰρ χάριτί ἐστε σεσῳσμένοι διὰ πίστεως

¬the for ˱by˲_grace ˱you_all˲_are /having_been/_saved through faith

If your language does not use this passive form, you can state this in active form. Alternate translation: “God saved you by grace because of your faith in him”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

τῇ γὰρ χάριτί ἐστε σεσῳσμένοι

¬the for ˱by˲_grace ˱you_all˲_are /having_been/_saved

See how you translated this phrase in Ephesians 2:5.

τοῦτο

this

The word this refers back to by grace you have been saved by faith.
