OET (OET-RV) But for you, the spirit that you received from Yeshua remains in you all and so you don’t need anyone else to teach you because his spirit teaches you about everything. The spirit teaches truth and not lies, and since you were taught by the spirit then you are remaining in Yeshua.

So continue to live in the way that he has taught you, and continue to share life with Jesus.

T4T As for you, God’s Spirit, whom you received from Christ, remains in you. So you do not need anyone to teach you anything else that they claim/say is the truth. ?:? *By form the verb could also be imperative: “just as it has taught you, reside in him”

BBE As for you, the Spirit which he gave you is still in you, and you have no need of any teacher; but as his Spirit gives you teaching about all things, and is true and not false, so keep your hearts in him, through the teaching which he has given you.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

καὶ ὑμεῖς

and you_all

Here John states again the emphasis that he started in 2:24, continuing his direct instruction to his readers. Use a natural way to indicate this continuing emphasis in your language. Alternate translation: “Now as for you”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

τὸ χρῖσμα ὃ ἐλάβετε ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ

the anointing that ˱you_all˲_received from him

See how you translated the word anointing in 2:20. Alternate translation: “the Spirit, whom Jesus has given you”

Note 3 topic: writing-pronouns

ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ & ἐν αὐτῷ

from him & in (Some words not found in SR-GNT: καὶ ὑμεῖς τὸ χρῖσμα ὃ ἐλάβετε ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ μένει ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ οὐ χρείαν ἔχετε ἵνα τις διδάσκῃ ὑμᾶς ἀλλʼ ὡς τὸ αὐτοῦ χρῖσμα διδάσκει ὑμᾶς περὶ πάντων καὶ ἀληθές ἐστιν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ψεῦδος καὶ καθὼς ἐδίδαξεν ὑμᾶς μένετε ἐν αὐτῷ)

Like the pronoun “he” in 2:25, the words him and his in this verse likely refer to Jesus. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use the name instead of a pronoun. Alternate translation: “from Jesus … in Jesus”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

μένει ἐν ὑμῖν

/is/_remaining in you_all

See the discussion of the term “remain” in Part 3 of the Introduction to 1 John. In this instance, it seems to refer to the continuing presence of the Spirit with a believer. Alternate translation: “lives inside of you”

Note 5 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

(Occurrence 2) καὶ

and

John is using the word and to introduce the results of what he says in the previous part of this sentence. Alternate translation: “and so”

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

τὸ αὐτοῦ χρῖσμα

the the ˱of˲_him anointing

See how you translated his anointing earlier in this verse. Alternate translation: “his Spirit”

Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / hyperbole

περὶ πάντων

concerning all_‹things›

This is a generalization for emphasis. If this is confusing in your language, you can be more specific. Alternate translation: “about the things that you need to know”

Note 8 topic: writing-pronouns

ἐδίδαξεν ὑμᾶς

˱it˲_taught you_all

Since the Spirit is a person, if you translate anointing as “Spirit” in this verse, it may also be more appropriate in your language to use a personal pronoun in this clause. Alternate translation: “he has taught you” or “the Spirit has taught you”

Note 9 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

μένετε ἐν αὐτῷ

˱you_all˲_/are/_remaining in him

See the discussion of the term “remain” in Part 3 of the Introduction to 1 John. In this instance, it seems to mean the same thing as in 2:6. See how you translated it there. Alternate translation: “continue to have a close relationship with him”

Note 10 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

μένετε ἐν αὐτῷ

˱you_all˲_/are/_remaining in him

John is speaking as if believers could be inside of God. Alternate translation: “continue to have a close relationship with him”
