ULT Is there not one father for us all? Has not one God created us? Why are we faithless each man against his brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers?

UST Now I, Malachi, will warn you about something else. It is certain that we Israelites are a people group only because God has created us as a people group. But we lie to each other and harm each other; in this way we disgrace the covenant that Yahweh made with our ancestors.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

2:10 children of the same Father . . . created by the same God (or by one God): These divine titles underscore the Lord’s uniqueness as Creator and his exclusive role as Israel’s Father. One God echoes the Shema, Israel’s creed of monotheism (Deut 6:4-5).
• betray: The central thesis of this third message is that divorce is a betrayal.
• covenant of our ancestors: The prophet alludes to the covenant formed at Mount Sinai, reminding the people that the law of Moses stipulated responsibility both to God and to one another.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

General Information:

Here the prophet Malachi begins to speak to his fellow Israelites.

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

הֲל֨וֹא אָ֤ב אֶחָד֙ לְכֻלָּ֔נוּ הֲל֛וֹא אֵ֥ל אֶֽחָ֖ד בְּרָאָ֑נוּ

am=not father one(ms) have,all,we am=not god one created,us

Malachi asks these questions in order to remind his fellow Israelites about what they already know. Alternate translation: “You know that we all have one father, that our God has created a nation out of us.” or “You all know that God is the father of all us Israelites, because he is the one who made our nation.”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

הֲל֛וֹא אֵ֥ל אֶֽחָ֖ד בְּרָאָ֑נוּ

am=not god one created,us

This question is meant to express a statement. Alternate translation: “Certainly it is the same God who has created us.”

בְּרָאָ֑נוּ

created,us

This probably refers to God forming the Hebrews into a nation.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

מַדּ֗וּעַ נִבְגַּד֙ אִ֣ישׁ בְּאָחִ֔יו לְחַלֵּ֖ל בְּרִ֥ית אֲבֹתֵֽינוּ

why faithless (a)_man in/on/at/with,another,his so_as_to,profaning covenant fathers,our

Malachi asks this question in order to rebuke his fellow Israelites. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this question as a statement. Alternate translation: “We should certainly not mistreat our brothers and disrespect God’s covenant by disobeying his commands, as you have been doing.”
