TSNTyndale Study Notes:

Ps 38 This psalm is a lament and prayer for healing. The psalmist’s suffering is associated with his unconfessed sin. He confesses his sin and entrusts his case to the Lord.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche

my heart’s deepest yearnings

(Some words not found in UHB: feeble and, crushed until very groan because_of,anguish heart,my )

Here “my heart” refers to the writer. It may be helpful to state that the writer desires good health. Alternate translation: “My strongest desires” or “that I desire you to heal me” (See also: figs-explicit)

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

my groanings are not hidden from you

(Some words not found in UHB: feeble and, crushed until very groan because_of,anguish heart,my )

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “you are able to see all my moans of sorrow”
