TSNTyndale Study Notes:

2:6 what is holding him back: This has been variously identified as God, the Holy Spirit, the church, the gospel, Paul, the emperor, the Roman Empire, or the government. Alternatively, the term may refer to something or someone who comes before the man of lawlessness, an agent of the lawlessness active at that time (2:7-8); in Greek literature, this expression could describe demonic possession. This figure would prepare the way for the man of lawlessness when his time comes (2:3, 8).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

καὶ νῦν τὸ κατέχον οἴδατε

and now the_‹thing› restraining ˱you_all˲_/have/_known

There are two possibilities for understanding the function of the word now here. (1) It goes with the one restraining him. Alternate translation: “And you know what is restraining him now” or (2) it goes with you know. Alternate translation: “And now you know what is restraining him”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

τὸ ἀποκαλυφθῆναι αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ αὐτοῦ καιρῷ

the_‹thing› that /to_be/_revealed him in the ˱of˲_him time

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “the proper time, when God will allow him to reveal himself”
