Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

10Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.[fn] 11But Mary stood outside at the tomb, weeping. Then, while she was weeping, she bent over to look into the tomb, 12and she saw two angels in white, seated one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been lying. 13And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have put him!” 14When she[fn] had said these things, she turned around[fn] and saw Jesus standing there, and she did not know that it was Jesus.

15Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?” She thought that it was the gardener, and[fn] said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will take him.” 16Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned around and[fn] said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni” (which means “Teacher”). 17Jesus said to her, “Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, and my God and your God.’ ” 18Mary Magdalene came and[fn] announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and he had said these things to her.
