ULT So in this the iniquity of Jacob will be covered,
⇔ for this will be all the fruit of the removal of his sin:
 ⇔ when he will make all the altar stones
⇔ as chalk stones, crushed to pieces.
⇔ No Asherah poles or incense altars will stand.

UST Yahweh did that in order to punish us for our sins
⇔ and remove our guilt.
 ⇔ As a result of our being exiled, all the altars to other gods in Israel will be demolished,
⇔ and we will be forgiven for the sins that we have committed.
 ⇔ There will be no more poles for worshiping the goddess Asherah or altars for burning incense to other gods;
⇔ they will all be torn down and smashed to bits.

BSB Therefore Jacob’s guilt will be atoned for,
⇔ and the full fruit of the removal of his sin will be this:
 ⇔ When he makes all the altar stones
⇔ like crushed bits of chalk,
 ⇔ no Asherah poles or incense altars
⇔ will remain standing.

OEB On this condition therefore
⇔ will Israel’s guilt be forgiven –
 ⇔ when she puts away her sin
⇔ the issue thereof will be this –
 ⇔ that all the stones of her altars
⇔ she will grind, like chalk, to powder;
 ⇔ that sacred poles and sun-pillars
⇔ she never will raise again.

WEB Therefore by this the iniquity of Jacob will be forgiven, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: that he makes all the stones of the altar as chalk stones that are beaten in pieces, so that the Asherah poles and the incense altars shall rise no more.

NET So in this way Jacob’s sin will be forgiven,
 ⇔ and this is how they will show they are finished sinning:
 ⇔ They will make all the stones of the altars
 ⇔ like crushed limestone,
 ⇔ and the Asherah poles and the incense altars will no longer stand.

LSV Therefore the iniquity of Jacob is covered by this,
And this [is] all the fruit—To take away his sin,
In his setting all the stones of an altar,
As chalkstones beaten in pieces,
They do not rise—Asherim and images.

FBV Through this experience Jacob's guilt will be forgiven. The removal of their sins will come to fruition when they take all the pagan altar stones and crush them to pieces like chalk—no Asherah poles or altars of incense will be left standing.

T4T Yahweh did that in order to punish us for our sins,
⇔ and remove our guilt.
 ⇔ As a result of our being exiled, all the altars to other gods in Israel will be demolished,
⇔ and we will be forgiven for the sins that we have committed.
 ⇔ There will be no more poles for worshiping the goddess Asherah, or altars for burning incense to other gods;
⇔ they will all be torn down.

LEB• for the guilt of Jacob, and this will be all of the fruit of the removal of his sin: •  all the stones of the altar like crushed stones of chalk, •  no poles of Asherah worship or incense altars will stand.

BBE So by this will the sin of Jacob be covered, and this is all the fruit of taking away his punishment; when all the stones of the altar are crushed together, so that the wood pillars and the sun-images will not be put up again.

  (And therefore shall the iniquite of Yacob be thus reconciled. And so shall he take away all ye/you_all fruit of his sins. As for altar stones, he shall make them all as stones beaten to poulder: the Groues and Idols shall not stand.)

WYC Therfor on this thing wickidnesse schal be foryouun to the hous of Jacob, and this schal be al the fruyt, that the synne therof be don awei, whanne it hath set all the stoonys of the auter as the stoonys of aische hurtlid doun. Wodis and templis schulen not stonde.
  (Therefore on this thing wickednesse shall be forgiven to the house of Yacob, and this shall be all the fruyt, that the sin therof be done away, when it hath/has set all the stones of the altar as the stones of aische hurtlid down. Wodis and templis should not stand.)

  (Therefore becomes dadurch the Sünde Yakobs aufhören; and the is the Nutz davon, that his Sünden weggenommen become, in to_him, that he all Steine the Altars macht like zerstoßene Steine, to Asche, that keine Haine still Bilder mehr bleiben.)

CLV Idcirco super hoc dimittetur iniquitas domui Jacob; et iste omnis fructus: ut auferatur peccatum ejus, cum posuerit omnes lapides altaris sicut lapides cineris allisos: non stabunt luci et delubra.
  (Idcirco super hoc dimittetur iniquitas domui Yacob; and iste everyone fructus: as auferatur peccatum eyus, cum posuerit everyone lapides altaris sicut lapides cineris allisos: not/no stabunt luci and delubra.)

BRN Therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be taken away; and this is his blessing, when I shall have taken away his sin; when they shall have broken to pieces all the stones of the altars as fine dust, and their trees shall not remain, and their idols shall be cut off, as a thicket afar off.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

27:9 God’s justice requires him to punish sin. That punishment is designed to correct behavior and to purify. Being conquered and exiled wasThe Exile occurred so that to purge Israel’s wickedness and to take away all her sin (see Rom 11:27).
• This was to be the end of all the pagan worship in Israel, including the incense altars and the poles that were used in worshiping the goddess Asherah.
