Matthew Called to Follow Jesus

Matthew Called to Follow Jesus

9And as[fn] Jesus was going away from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth and said to him, “Follow me!” And he stood up and[fn] followed him.

10And it happened as[fn] he was dining[fn] in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners were coming and[fn] dining[fn] with Jesus and his disciples. 11And when they[fn] saw it,[fn] the Pharisees began to say to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 12And when he[fn] heard it,[fn] he said, “Those who are healthy do not have need of a physician, but those who are sick.[fn] 13But go and[fn] learn what it means, “I want mercy and not sacrifice.”[fn] For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
