3:4 A cubit is the length from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow on a man’s arm, or about 18 inches or 46 centimeters, so 2,000 cubits is about 920 meters.

NET But stay about three thousand feet behind it. Keep your distance so you can see which way you should go, for you have not traveled this way before.”

3:4 Stay about half a mile behind them: God did not want his people to take his presence for granted. They were to acknowledge his holiness with reverence, respect, and awe.
