TSNTyndale Study Notes:

132:6 Ephrathah is Bethlehem (Gen 35:19; 48:7).
• Jaar is the singular form of the plural “Jearim.” The Ark was at Kiriath-jearim for twenty years in Samuel’s time (1 Sam 7:1-2).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

we heard about it in Ephrathah

(Some words not found in UHB: see/lo/see! heard_of,it in/on/at/with,Ephrathah found,it in/on/at/with,fields Jaar )

The word “it” probably refers to where God’s sacred chest was. The phrase “in Ephrathah” probably refers to where they were when they heard about it. This can be stated clearly. Alternate translation: “we who were in Ephrathah heard about where the sacred chest was” or “we in Ephrathah heard that the holy box was in Jaar”

Note 2 topic: translate-names

fields of Jaar

(Some words not found in UHB: see/lo/see! heard_of,it in/on/at/with,Ephrathah found,it in/on/at/with,fields Jaar )

Jaar is probably another name for the city of Kiriath Jearim. This probably refers to the fields surrounding the city.
