The Prophecy of Simeon

The Prophecy of Simeon

25And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was[fn] Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he would see the Lord’s Christ.[fn] 27And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus so that they could do for him according to what was customary under the law, 28he took him in his[fn] arms and praised God and said,

33And his father and mother were astonished at what was said about him. 34And Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed[fn] 35and a sword will pierce your own soul also, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed!”
