The religious leaders ask for a sign

Mat 12:38–42

Mark 8:11–12

Luke 11:29–32

12:38 The religious leaders ask for a sign

(Mark 8:11-12, Luke 11:29-32)

38[ref]Then some of the teachers of the law and some from the Pharisees’ party responded to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”

39[ref]It’s an evil and adulterous generation that’s looking for a sign, answered Yeshua, “and no sign will be given to it apart from the sign of the prophet Yonah. 40[ref]Because just like Yonah was in the belly of the huge fish for three days and three nights, in the same way humanity’s child will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41[ref]The inhabitants of Nineveh will stand up and condemn this generation on judgement day, because they turned from their sins when Yonah preached, and look, now there’s one here who’s greater than Yonah. 42[ref]The queen of the south will get up and condemn this generation on judgement day, because she travelled a great distance to hear King Solomon’s wisdom, and look, now there’s one here who’s greater than Solomon.

8:11 The religious leaders want to see a miracle

(Mat. 16:1-4)

11[ref]Some men from the Pharisee party came out to Yeshua and started arguing with him. They were checking him out and wanted to see a miracle. 12[ref]Yeshua grieved inside and asked, “Why do you people need to see a miracle before you’ll believe me? Actually, no miracle will be done for this generation.

11:29 The crowd requests a miracle

(Mat. 12:38-42)

29[ref]The crowds had grown even larger, but Yeshua told them, “This generation is evil because they’re requesting a miracle and the only miracle that will be given to them will be the miracle of Yonah. 30[ref]In the same way that Yonah became a sign to the citizens of Ninevah, so too humanity’s child will also be to this generation. 31[ref]The queen from the south will come back to life on judgement day along with the people from this generation, and she’ll condemn them, because she travelled a long distance to hear Solomon’s wisdom, and now, someone’s here who’s greater than Solomon. 32[ref]The people of Ninevah will stand up on judgement day along with the people from this generation and they’ll condemn this generation because those from Ninevah turned from their disobedience after Yonah’s preaching, and now, someone’s here who’s greater than Yonah.

10:1 The queen from Sheva visits Shelomoh

(2 Chr. 9:1-12)

10Now the queen from Sheva had heard a report about how Yahweh had blessed Shelomoh, and she came to test him with difficult questions.[ref] 2She came to Yerushalem with lots of her top people, camels carrying spices and gemstones and a lot of gold. Then she went to Shelomoh and started asking him everything that had been on her mind. 3He answered all her questions—there wasn’t any topic that he wasn’t able to shed light on. 4When the queen from Sheva saw the extent of Shelomoh’s wisdom, the palace that he’d built, 5the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the uniforms and the service of his waiters, and the burnt offerings that he sacrificed at Yahweh’s temple, she was totally lost for words.

6She told the king, “Wow, everything that I heard about you back in my own country, and about how wise you are, is true. 7I hadn’t believed it until I got here and saw it with my own eyes, but then I find that what I heard is only half of how incredible it is. Your wisdom and your goodness is way more than what I’d heard described. 8Your men are so fortunate and especially your servants who’re always standing in front of you and able to hear the wise things that you say. 9May your God Yahweh be blessed, who was pleased with you and placed you on Israel’s throne. He appointed you as king to rule them fairly and honestly because Yahweh loves Israel forever.”

10Then the queen gave to king four tonnes of gold and very many spices and precious gemstones. Never again did King Shelomoh receive more spices than what the queen gave him that day.
