TSNTyndale Study Notes:

16:5 the church that meets in their home: Early Christians did not have large buildings for their meetings—they met in private homes. The church in Rome was composed of a number of house churches where small groups of believers gathered for worship and instruction.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / infostructure

καὶ τὴν κατ’ οἶκον αὐτῶν ἐκκλησίαν

and the in /the/_house ˱of˲_them assembly

This clause continues the sentence that Paul began in 16:3 and interrupted in the previous verse. If you made the previous verse into its own sentence, then here you will need to add the main verb from 16:3. Alternate translation: “and greet the church based in their house”

Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns

οἶκον αὐτῶν

/the/_house ˱of˲_them

The pronoun their here refers to Prisca and Aquila. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state this explicitly. Alternate translation: “the house of Prisca and Aquila”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / imperative

ἀσπάσασθε

greet

See how you translated Greet in 16:3.

Note 4 topic: translate-names

Ἐπαίνετον

Epaenetus

The word Epaenetus is the name of a man.

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

ἀπαρχὴ τῆς Ἀσίας εἰς Χριστόν

/a/_first-fruit ¬the ˱of˲_Asia for Christ

Paul speaks of Epaenetus as if he were fruit that he had harvested. He means that Epaenetus was the first person in Asia who believed in Christ as a result of Paul’s preaching. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “the first person in Asia to believe in Jesus”
