TSNTyndale Study Notes:

48:1-47 Moab, one of two nations descended from Abraham’s nephew Lot (Gen 19:36-38), was the next nation brought to trial in the Lord’s courtroom (cp. Isa 15–16). Moab’s territory lay between the Arnon River and the Zered Brook east of the Dead Sea. At the time, the Moabites felt self-assured because they were relatively free from the military reach of the Babylonians. However, the Lord found the Moabites to be greedy and cruel, and their worship was vicious and sensuous.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche

(Occurrence 0) my heart is lamenting for Moab like a flute

(Some words not found in UHB: on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in yes/correct/thus/so heart,my for,Moab like,flute moans and,heart,my to/towards men_of קִיר חֶרֶשׂ like,flute moans on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in yes/correct/thus/so wealth he/it_had_made perished )

Here “heart” represents the whole person. Alternate translation: “I cry sadly for Moab. My cries are like the sad music a person plays on a flute at a funeral”

(Occurrence 0) my heart

(Some words not found in UHB: on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in yes/correct/thus/so heart,my for,Moab like,flute moans and,heart,my to/towards men_of קִיר חֶרֶשׂ like,flute moans on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in yes/correct/thus/so wealth he/it_had_made perished )

This could mean: (1) “my” refers to Jeremiah or (2) “my” refers to Yahweh.

Note 2 topic: translate-names

(Occurrence 0) Kir Hareseth

(Some words not found in UHB: on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in yes/correct/thus/so heart,my for,Moab like,flute moans and,heart,my to/towards men_of קִיר חֶרֶשׂ like,flute moans on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in yes/correct/thus/so wealth he/it_had_made perished )

Kir Hareseth was an ancient capital of Moab. See how you translated this name in Jeremiah 48:31.
