ULT And the Levite, he shall serve the service of the tent of meeting, and they shall bear their iniquity. It is a statute of eternity for your generations, and in the midst of the sons of Israel you shall not inherit an inheritance.

18:1-32 The instructions given here arose from the need demonstrated in ch 17 for clear boundaries between the people and the priests and Levites. The distinctive privileges of the Levites were matched by significant responsibilities. One very important aspect of their work was to safeguard the Tabernacle from unauthorized entry (ch 16).

God speaks of the land that the other people of Israel will possess as if they will inherit it. The Levites would not receive any of the land. Alternate translation: “they must not have any of the land that the other people of Israel receive”
