TSNTyndale Study Notes:

44:1-34 The brothers appeared to have changed; they had shown remorse over what they had done to Joseph, and they showed integrity in returning the money and in bringing Benjamin. Given a chance to get rid of Rachel’s other son, Benjamin, would they do it?

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: translate-honorifics

וַתֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אֶל עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ

and=she/it_said to/towards your=servants

Judah uses the humble term your servants to show respect and honor to someone of higher status and authority. Alternate translation: “Then you told us, who are your humble servants,”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes

הוֹרִדֻ֖הוּ אֵלָ֑י וְאָשִׂ֥ימָה עֵינִ֖י עָלָֽיו

bring_~_down,him to,me and,set eyes,my on/upon/above=him/it

The verb “bring … down” refers to the fact that Egypt was lower in elevation than the region of Canaan. Some translations leave down implied. Do what is best in your language. Alternate translation: “Bring your youngest brother to me so that I can meet him.” or “to bring our youngest brother here to you so that you can see him for yourself.”
