TSNTyndale Study Notes:

• The burnt offering provided atonement for sins committed during the period of uncleanness when the person was unable to bring offerings (see 1:4).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

וְעָשָׂ֤ה הַכֹּהֵן֙ אֶת־הַ֣חַטָּ֔את

and,sacrifice the=priest/officer DOM the,sin_offering

Alternate translation: “And the priest shall prepare the sin offering”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

וְכִפֶּ֕ר עַל־הַמִּטַּהֵ֖ר

and,make_atonement on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the,cleansed

See how you translated the abstract noun atonement in 1:4. Specifically, see how you handled this phrase in the previous verse.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

הַמִּטַּהֵ֖ר

the,cleansed

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “the person who wishes to be clean”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

מִטֻּמְאָת֑וֹ

from,uncleanness,his

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of uncleanness, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: “from that which has made him unclean”

Note 4 topic: writing-pronouns

וְאַחַ֖ר יִשְׁחַ֥ט אֶת־הָעֹלָֽה׃

and=after slaughter DOM (Some words not found in UHB: and,sacrifice the=priest/officer DOM the,sin_offering and,make_atonement on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the,cleansed from,uncleanness,his and=after slaughter DOM the,burnt_offering )

Here, he refers to the person who is to be cleansed. If this would not be clear in your language, consider stating the referent explicitly. Alternate translation: “And after, the person being cleansed will slaughter the burnt offering”
