TSNTyndale Study Notes:

9:32-43 These verses describe Peter’s itinerant ministry in Judea, particularly along the seacoast. Exercising spiritual powers given to him by God, Peter performed wonderful works, including the healing of Aeneas and the raising of Dorcas. Jesus had promised such signs and wonders to the disciples (John 14:12).
• Typical of Luke’s writing, the healing of a man is matched by the healing of a woman (see Luke 13:10-17; 14:1-6). The people in the area were deeply moved by these miracles, and many were drawn into the faith (Acts 9:35, 42).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις

in ¬the days those

The phrase in those days refers to the time when Peter was nearby in Lydda. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could state that explicitly. Alternate translation: “while Peter was nearby”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

λούσαντες & αὐτὴν ἔθηκαν

/having/_washed & her ˱they˲_put

This was washing to prepare for Dorcas’s body for burial. Customarily her family and friends would have done it. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could state that explicitly. “Once her family and friends had washed her body to prepare it for burial, they laid it”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ἔθηκαν ἐν ὑπερῴῳ

˱they˲_put in /an/_upper_room

This was a temporary display of the body during the funeral process. Alternate translation: “they laid her body in an upper room so that people could come there and pay their respects”

Note 4 topic: translate-unknown

ὑπερῴῳ

/an/_upper_room

In this culture, in some houses, rooms were built above other rooms. If your community does not have houses like that, you could use another expression to describe a large, sheltered space that people could use for funeral visitation.
