TSNTyndale Study Notes:

12:15 without yeast: Israel needed unleavened bread for traveling (see 12:34, 39), which the festival commemorated. Later, yeast was seen as an image of sin, probably because it is an agent of fermentation (“Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees,” Matt 16:6).
• cut off from the community: This means either death or expulsion from the community.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

אַ֚ךְ

surely

Alternate translation: “Surely” or “Indeed”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וְנִכְרְתָ֞ה הַנֶּ֤פֶשׁ הַהִוא֙ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

and,cut_off the=living_creatures the=that from,Israel

The metaphor cut off could mean: (1) the person must leave. Alternate translation: “he must be sent away” (2) the person is no longer an Israelite. Alternate translation: “he will no longer be considered to be one of the people of Israel” (3) the person must die. Alternate translation: “he must be killed”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

וְנִכְרְתָ֞ה הַנֶּ֤פֶשׁ הַהִוא֙ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

and,cut_off the=living_creatures the=that from,Israel

As noted in the previous note, the metaphor cut off has at least three possible meanings. By whom that person will be cut off is not specified; it could be the Israelites or Yahweh. If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. The following alternate translations express those: (1) “the people of Israel must send him away” or (2) “I will no longer consider him to be one of the people of Israel” or (3) “the people of Israel must kill him”

Note 3 topic: grammar-collectivenouns

מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

from,Israel

Israel is a collective noun referring to the nation or people group. If your language does not use singular nouns in that way, you can use a different expression. Alternate translation: “from the Israelites”
